1947 Chris Craft Rocket On eBay For All You Painted Woody Lovers
I love these little Chris Crafts. Here is chance to go painted woody boating for little money…. I hope…Click Here! This one looks like it has all it’s history to back it up, that’s good. It’s something different. That’s good. Now, According to page 133 of Jerry Conrad’s book. The Essential Guide To Chris Crafts. Considered the go to for factoids. This boat would have come with a red interior. Also a sticker on the side of a very cool rocket, and 415 of them were made in the year 1947. The owner claims it to be 1 of 40. NOW hold on! The owner may be right. This is the charm of these boats. Chris Craft would do whatever the owner wanted. White interior. OK, Pez dispenser in the engine compartment. No… Only because Pez had not been invented yet! Ask the owner. He has the delivery photo of the boat. That will tell the story. These quirky things might also explain the 1 out of 40 number. And in the end… who gives a crap. It’s a very cool boat. Here is a shot of a perfect one on Mitch Lapoints site.
Do the compression test. As long as it is close I would leave the internals alone. 283 will run forever. One of the most problem areas I have found with them is the distributor. The springs and the weights tend to rust and get hung up. Most of the time they can be cleaned up and lubricated.SteveStatistics: Posted by Katanna — Thu Nov 23, 2017 12:01 pm […]

Hi CCABC FriendsI recently bought a 1964 Cavalier 26' Futura (to go along with my 1963) which has the original 283 motor. As I have all winter to work on the boat, I plan to restore as much of the running gear as possible. Since I have the cockpit sole torn out, now is the time to work on the motor/steering/fuel tank, etc. Pervious owner had boat for 33 […]
Hi CCABC FriendsI'm restoring a 1964 CC Cavalier that has the original cockpit flooring. (pic attached) I understand Nautolex no longer makes this material and it is out-of-stock with dealers. Does anyone know where some might be hidden? I will need 4 linear yards, depending on width. I need 2 pieces, 24" width, plus overlap of 4-5 inches and 1 pie […]
Going to try again to post a pic. I am slowly making process fabricating and dry fitting the outer planks. I can't beat the cold weather in time to use adhesives so I am satisfied to dry fit, gap and pre-drill so all will be ready come April. Over the winter I will finish all the side planking, finish bolting the chines to the frames, and get the solid […]
AB and the Boston boat are truly high end examples of CC's best work.....and no serious takers....sign of the times I guess...but what nice boats...thanks to you both for your stewardship and courage.John in Va.Statistics: Posted by jfrprops — Tue Nov 21, 2017 8:54 pm […]
I had American Beauty on the market this past summer. A number of prop kickers, but not one that was interested enough to even come and look at her. Then again I have decided my next one is not going to be wood, even though I LOVE them.Statistics: Posted by tkhersom — Tue Nov 21, 2017 8:01 pm […]
