Sunset on Summer rides are the best

It’s that time of year. When we get out there for one last gasp of summer. This weekend seemed like such a weekend. The air is crisp and yet warm. The sun is still out and for brief moments it can be, well, wonderful. If you are fortunate enough to live in the more southern areas of course last gasp week never happens. But in a strange way, it does, Knowing that most of your fellow Woody Boaters are in there barns working on there boats.

You never know if this is the last ride!

Of course in New Zealand, they are just waking up from Winter and looking forward to a Summer of Woody Boating. The amazing Blue Arabian should be arriving just in time for summer there. So today, and hopefully through the week, share your last gasp story or photos. We would all get a gas out of your last gasp! baby!

Bob Kays captured this magic moment on Lake Hopatcong. Its supposed to be close to 80 this week? Is this the last gasp of summer?

We have a little ways to go here @ SML, Virginia but you know it’s time when there’s steam belching off the lake’s surface with the cool morning temps and the fishermen show up in your cove dressed in full winter Carharts. Brrrrrrrrrr!

Last week in Bobcaygeon in the Kawarthas. There is boating outside of Muskoka in Ontario. Always leave the boat looking decent at the dock because to someone it is a boat show of one.

WELL, Thursday and Friday the “never wrong, high paid” weathermen were all claiming upper 60’s and a sunny Saturday for lower West Michigan. So we put a call out on our local social media classic group, to meet up at 2 pm on Spring Lake to cruise inland up the Grand River. Got 4 boats signed up.
Woke up to “doom and gloom” damp and 16 mph winds, and the sun never did come out all day. We had to cancel the last gasp cruise, but hoping for a Monday late afternoon run yet.
    Only in Michigan…

Boating season is over, but maintenance and repair season begins. Just as much fun! I love working on wooden boats.

Our fun cruise around the Harris chain of lakes was called off because of Hurricane Matthew… and now we’re headed out of town for work for a week or so… but the events we had wanted to attend have been rescheduled to the end of the month… Woo-hoo we’re going boating! Like the kiwi’s we’re just getting started with our season.

Great header shot this morning thanks Bob. You live in a very special corner of the world. The Blue Arabian will be slipping into the container at Katz in the next two weeks and heading down to NZ where she will be introduced to her other Century siblings near the crystal clear waters of Lake Rotoiti. The boat show is in March so I’ll be posting a full story of her reception.

We ran the boat last weekend on Clearwater Lake, Maine. The best ride was with my youngest son and three brothers in law. A cold front was moving through, the sky was brightening and the colors were at peak. We beached the boat in a remote part of the lake and had a little fire. Somehow, in this day and age, nobody had a phone so no pics. I’m holding out on winterization. There’s some talk of a Kennebeck River cruise.

Went for a ride today, glorious, 74F mostly sunny in upstate NY. I’m not planning on hauling out just yet. The forecast says nearly 80 degrees for tomorrow. Besides the color in the leaves hasn’t even peaked. I think I have a couple of weeks left.

Last gasp run in my 1966 MFG Niagara on Saturday at Portage Lakes, Ohio. Sunny, mid 70’s – perfect day! Now to put it away for the winter and restore my 1962 MFG Edinboro (shown)
