I Want To Roll Around Naked On My Freshly Sanded And Stained Boat!

She is getting a fake Tan!

Ya, I am insane. And this sort of mahogany promiscuity might explain the visits to the ER.  Am I a Mahoganist? A term for those that have a deep desire to feel the freshly sanded grain of a mahogany Hull? Mmmm, the photos of WECATCHEM coming in from the Katzs marina gang are like getting photos of pure joy. During meetings with power points glowing and people presenting to the screen, I get these on my phone. Dang, dill-ia – ding – dong – dang.

All bleached and sanded

The gang has been sanding, and bleaching and yesterday Stained her. She took all day with three guys to stain her massiveness. but man oh man she looks amazing. So, close the door, and just bask in these glorious photos of a naked boat being stained.

I got some nice stains on my shirt at lunch yesterday. Luckily no one tried to roll around naked on them.

That fishing box turns me on. You really have a very special boat there. I’m insanely jealous and wildly excited for you all at the same time. Beautiful work Katz’s folks! Carry On!

Matt, you mentioned bleaching the wood.
I am very interested in what people have to say about bleaching mahogany.
I have read quite a bit about it. My understanding is that bleach destroys the natural yellow of the wood. It seems to be recommended only when you have dramatic areas of discoloration that can’t practically be sanded out.

Katz is obviously comfortable with bleach.

Does bleach destroy the natural color of mahogany? Does that matter?

Also, what are the details of the bleaching process you are using?

    Thanks.

Staining was a very rewarding step in my resto. Kind of brings all that work to life.

As for stain blending I personally like the plank to plank variation. Reminds you that it really is wood underneath all that varnish.

I agree with you Mark, I used no stain on my restore preferred the natural look. Even though all of the boards came out of the same tree, look a the difference between the second from the top board and the rest, and then from another angle it looks the same, that’s what I love about wood.

Most important step and as I get older, as M Fine said, staining items, carpet, clothing, and car seats, etc becomes second nature to us older folks but staining a boat is still an art form.

Great! Normally my coworkers see cool wood boats on my computer screen, but today they see the words “I Want To Roll Around Naked On My Freshly Sanded And Stained Boat!”
This may take awhile to explain.
    Thanks for the laugh!
