Perfection! Don’t know much about judging standards, but is an original/as built bottom a requirement?

Unless there has been a recent change in the rules, there is a 1/2 point deduction for a newer style bottom. Its all about points. If you dont have the original engine, I believe that is still an automatic 10 pt. deduction. That puts one out of the running.

Usually an non original engine , I.e. Serial number, can be replaced with a correct period aged engine that was offered that year without much or no deduction. ACBS rules are harsh on “modern power” and non correct year.

It looks like there is a bead of 5200 squeezing out between two transom planks. Is the just an optical illusion?

Midnight Thunder was originally restored by Jack Schropp of Northwest Classic boats as his personal ride in the late 1980’s. My memory is that it was restored by traditional methods. It made a lasting impression cruising in cruising in this piece of art.

Gosh, Karl, was that jack’s boat? He did a beautiful job. If i recall correctly they found the grey boat in hawaii of all places. They certainly didnt use 5200. In any event didnt he name it thunder balls or something like that? It was sold to a physician in the atlanta area and not sure what happened beyond that. glad it ended up out this way again.

Thunder Balls was the 36 ft Hacker triple that ended up in the collection of Gordon Apker. Jack’s boat was Midnight Thunder.

Jack sold “Midnight Thunder” when he and (Northwest Classic Boat customer) Malcom Rankin decided to join forces and brew beer. If you have attended any ACBS-PNW events in Seattle in the past decade and like beer, you have probably had some Mac and Jacks. 🙂
