Miami, Houston, Racine, Reedville!

Over the past couple weeks here at Woody Boater have been a stew of mixed feelings. We have very close family in Houston and watched them going through hell, now Florida and just cringing and holding our breath as we watch that mess about to happen….AGAIN! Combine that with the mission of Woody Boater which is to promote the positive culture of classic boating, and help folks out there know about fun ways to enjoy there boats in places like Racine, and even little Reedville Virginia this weekend. It makes it confusing and done with mixed emotions. We have also been taken to task in the comment section about not referencing such things. Ugh.

Reedville is very familiar with Hurricanes as well. Its a reality that we all live with. This is from Hurricane Sandy.

In an odd way it feels like we are trying to have fun and talk about boats while Rome is burning. So how do we do that? Well, first know we care, and have contributed and our hearts are with you as you are stuck in traffic trying to leave Florida, or bailing out your home in Texas. But you can watch and donate to Hurricane in a thousand other places, we have chosen to keep WoodyBoater focused on the classic boat universe so that for about the 4 minutes you are here, you can escape the disasters.

So, if are fortunate enough to live in an area not effected, Donate and help. If you live in Florida and are in the mass exodus… Just know that Winter is coming as well, and very soon you will be able to show us all that you are still boating while we are all dealing with ice storms and high heating oil prices. And once again, we will all be jealous of your joy! Be safe, our hearts are with you.

    Well said Matt,. Even though we are fortunate to live in an unaffected area, and are enjoying our boats and friends in Racine, the people affected by these ongoiing tragedies are in our thoughts and prayers. We are keeping up with all the news reports and saddened by what those affected are forced to deal with. And yes, we will help in any way we can!

    We headed to coast in a few minutes to pull Hobie & Sunfish off the beach and maybe sandbag the back door of the house on the ground…….but this is not our first rodeo and I think we’ll be okay….Florida…or most of it will still be sticking out in the Atlantic and Gulf next Wednesday.

    Thanks for the well wishes. Knowing the WB community is out there thinking about us is heartwarming. Remember, we chose to live here, and we still think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Think of IRMA as our pennance for not having to shovel snow and being able to run our boats year round.

    While this may be the worst Hurricane on record, it is not our first rodeo. We have had a week to prepare and provision. Let me put it in perspective: I would much rather have a week to prepare for flooding and winds of 175 mph, than be in the Midwest where you have 20 seconds warning of a tornado with winds of 235 mph, and snaking across the ground at 35 mph.

    Only 6 1/2 months till Tavares!!

    Thanks for the well wishes and prayers. We’re in Titusville which is on the east coast. It’s a waiting game at the moment. We’re all hoping Irma takes a sharp right into the Atlantic. We can handle the right side of the storm, but the left is the dirty side which causes the damage. We were living in New Orleans when Katrina hit us so we’re a little jumpy about storms. Everyone stay safe.
