We Are Kick’n Some Aft Now! Sons Of Varnish Rule!

, , ,

It’s real!

So, you think your a bad ass cause you own a Sons Of Varnish t Shirt? Okay, wait, I do.. Okay I did. Not anymore. No thanks to fellow WoodyBoater of The Month and Sons Of Varnish God Les Husell from The Aland Islands. Les, is seriously all in, and we love it. Will it inspire others to take it to the next level? Hell, I might need to even raise the game now. We cant let Les hang out there all alone..

I wish I had thought of this first. Dam it’s real! AHHHHHH! DAMMMMM, Les You Da Man!

Come on. You had the courage to buy a boat made from ratty dry wood that didn’t float. Whats a little tat? Nothi’n. Now Les takes it a bit further and has a serious cool boat and gives rides all around the Aland Islands, situated between Finland and Sweden, it is an autonomous region of 6000 islands belonging to Finland but Swedish is the official language. I imagine in the summer. Cause right now its light there between 11 AM and 1 PM.. And I imagine a bit cold.

The mahogany cruiser Elin was built in 1930 at the Larsson brothers’ shipyard in Kristinehamn, Sweden, after the drawings of master boat builder C.G. Pettersson.

An old classic worth saving, In the hands of Les, Elin has been treated with numerous layers of varnish and equal amounts of love.

What an amazing place.

Beautiful lines

But we are defiantly gonna visit in the summer. Les you rule! And we all salute you my fellow Son Of Varnish! You can visit Les’s fun business right here in the warmth of your home. And poof, you have a brother in Finland now.

Les doing some wood work!

Today’s header should be a poster!

Oh hell YA!

I volunteer to be the roving reporter who tests out his boat ride services (this summer). I promise to take lots of photos and videos and to document the boats and the food. Just give me the corporate credit card and I will take care of the rest.

LOL! Nice map. You have the bacon dot a little too far to the east, but you spelled it correctly so that is a big plus. See the blue dot for the current location of my bacon stash, but I have to warn all potential visitors that the bacon is frozen solid right now. 2f here this morning. Ugh!

It is now down to 1, one, like just a tiny bit above zero zip nada, one! The forecast said it was supposed to go UP to 11 today just like Nigel’s amp. Why is is getting colder? Forget the morning bacon, time to browse Florida real estate…if I can figure out how to get the frost off the monitor.

My extra bottle of -60 is slush and it is only -2 here in Northern Illinois. I hope it stays slushy.
Looks like you have been given a challenge Matt. New Trawler and a new tattoo. Hey is that tattoo a copyright infringement. HA HA.

It would be a copyright infringement in Finland or Sweden, but it is OK in Aland. As long as Les never travels, he won’t have to pay the licensing fee.

Hey, you know there is a huge positive to having a week of frigid temperatures. NO GATORS! Come July, when the water warms up, we will be able to swim without being eaten. Take that Florida!

Beautiful here, could use more snow! Hovering around zero. Time to drag the fatter one a couple miles through the park.

Isn’t it great? I can run around outside without too much panting! If only the silly humans would getaway from the wood stove and come out and play more.

I have the shirt and LOVE the tattoo! Any chance it could be made in a transfer? I would be all in for that!

Seemed like it was in the 40’s when I went out to get the paper this morning here in Tallahassee. Can’t be too cold tho as two guys in two flats boats have been fishing just off the dock for the past 45 minutes…Hope they are catching !
As for the gators…they just go to the bottom of the lake when it gets cold….they’ll be back on top in Spring….But don’t worry…they gator is more afraid of you than you are of it….that is unless you are a small dog or a very small child.

Hei Les, that is a beautiful boat…

Meanwhile back in Canada, as practical as we are; aptly named, Cold Lake, Alberta will be a balmy -31C tonight. That’s -24F for all Woodyboaters below the 49th parallel.

Personally, I’m not down with body art but, if I were, that WB tat would be right up there.

Kevin, what is that great looking framed hull on the table all about?
