Rainbow Sunset Birthday Cruise. Does It Get Any Better?

,

Amazing!

After a weekend of on and off rainy gloomy boating, or non boating, we set out last night between dinner and birthday cake for the Boatress for what looked like it might be a nice sunset cruise on WECATCHEM. This was a very special day for her, since all our children were home together. Something that hasn’t happened in three years. And last night even Mother Nature gave us this special moment. I will let the photos tell the story!

A wonderful evening cruise

The happy family

My son hank who flew in from Berlin Germany

Gotta take the stern shot

And the bow shot.

The water had gold sparkles

Moon, Rainbow, magic!

No photoshop was used. THis is what it was

She is the light of my life!

We just sat out there and took it all in

What a night for the family

It got dark, and we just kept gawking at it all

Then the slow ride home. BTW, a 500 RPM rumble home on a summer night is pure heaven

Ham and Kelsey enjoy the slow ride home

The best seat in the house!

Hopefully you were able to get a wonderful Sunset ride in this wet weekend!

Thumbs up and I get it. Have had the two kids and four grandkids on the boat since Friday. Kids? They’re 35 and 38! We’ve done it all. Panfish off the dock. Bike rides. Ice cream. Swimming. They are sleeping late today which reinforces it all. Oh, and I’ve consumed a copious amount of papa juice.

That’s the astounding beauty of the Chesapeake Bay. If you haven’t visited you’re really missing out on some of the greatest boating in the country. I’ve boated here all my life and still have much of it to explore. Don’t be put off by the brackish water either. It’s nothing a few minutes with a bucket of soapy water and a hose can’t cure. Happy birthday Boatress!

Great pictures – they capture the essence of life on the water (especially in a classic boat). I spent the day in the rain at the Bay Harbor Antique Car and Boat show where I was fortunate to share the same finger dock with John Allen’s magnificent 1928 Ditchburn Viking “Mowitza II”. Actually kind of a humbling experience.

Perfect time and pictures of a special day. Would make a great coffee table book of memories for the kids. Happy Birthday with many returns.

Congratulations on a wonderful family day together – the best present a mom can get on her birthday, made even better by a little time on the water! Beautiful!

One thing about weather like that is that you get spectacular sunsets which you always seem to capture. Looks like a memorable time on the water with the family. That’s one of the benefits not really promoted is how woody boating can bring a family together for lifelong memories.

Dang, you can get another boat; after an evening like that…with all of the kids. Good for you!
