It’s Sausage Saturday.

Buckle Up your Life jacket, it’s gonna be a bumpy ride!

Well, it looks like Sausage is the official term for days like today where we take little bits of unrelated potential stories and make a day of it to clean out the files. Oddly enough these special Sausage Days are very popular as are header days. So, here goes. just sit back with your Varnish Coffee and enjoy the Sausage!

Hey I recruited another young one to the wooden boat cult! She is explaining to me the theory behind Kettering ignition and the need to keep the points clean.

The stuff in the carb comes from fussing and fiddling and always taking it apart to see ‘what’s wrong’.

I finally got in a 3-hour sunset cruise in the old Whaler last night. It was actually cool at the pier head, with a nice northerly breeze. Today I plan to take the Whaler up to Whitehall and cruise White Lake, Who by the way, will have a new Classic Boat Show date and format, July 28th. It is now being planned by NEW organizers. Check It out

About Seaswirl. They were always a fiberglass boat company based in Oregon. They changed hands several times and were part of OMC at the time of the big OMC bankruptcy in late, 2000.. Purchased by Genmar, who went broke in 2009. Spin off and purchased by former Genmar CEO Irwin Jacobs, along with Larson (bow riders, deck boats, and express cruisers) and Triumph (ropeline inshore fishing boats). They dropped the Seaswirl line and name, but kept the Seaswirl Striper offshore fishing boat line and consolidated production of Larson, Striper, and Triumph in Little Falls, MN.

So there you have the quick story on Seaswirl.

Update: Triumph boats were dropped and production of Larson and Striper boats moved to a sister plant in Pulaski, WI in 2016.

The boating industry keeps changing. Even Chris-Craft has been purchased by Winnebago.

Not sure we can take this much sausage on a Saturday morning!

This is our 1979 Seaswirl, aka “The Sea Squirrel”. It’s a deep-V hull, and rides good, for an 18 footer. Photo at Priest Lake, Idaho. Your picture suggests they built wood boats; I doubt they ever did.

I just put a fresh coat of paint on Zoomer’s sides last week (hadn’t been done for twenty five years or so) and to think I could have been holding my brush and my baby could have come up to me and encouraged me to take up puffin on a Viceroy….

That carb is a concern. I would assume you are only using pure gas, not an ethanol mix. Sometimes gas suppliers get it wrong and ship the wrong fuel, they did it to my grandfather’s Texaco station 3 or 4 times – the shipper loaded regular into the premium tanks – the Cadillac and Lincoln owners came back mad as hell back years ago. Same could happen to marina or any retailer and you’ve got phase separation in an ethanol laced batch. Those bastards in congress who voted this crap into our existence need to be sent to Guantanamo Bay. I’m assuming you cleaned the carb since the last picture you posted of it that looked very much the same. Maybe you should siphon your tank down to the last drop and view that last remnants – watered fuel gets pushed to the bottom. You’d have to pump it into a glass jug to view which is impossible to find now.

Nice boat, Jimmy! I am glad we were able to help you out with such a short window. Ryan stepped up and made it his priority! Let me know if we’re missing anything. THANK YOU!

Sausage Saturday had a different meaning for me. Precooked 48 Italian sausages for our family pool party. Soaked in marinara sauce they will be consumed by hungry swimmers this afternoon.

Too bad the guy smoking the Kent’s didn’t get a chance to enjoy his boat. The “Micronite” filters were actually made with asbestos! Now there’s a combo for you, sucking down tobacco smoke through asbestos!
