2 Days! Till Clayton. Here Are Some Local Recommendations From A Local.

Oh ya! There is a Brewery across the street from the show

Here is a story from last year, yes, we repurposed it. Still on the fence about going to Clayton this year? Really? The 1940’s year thing, the chance to see one of a kind boats isnt’ enough? OK, how about food! Beer?

There really is a Brewery across the street. Make sure you go before the auction!

Thanks to the great folks from the Antique Boat Museum for giving us all some places to enjoy while there. Now. Could we pace our selves so we are not all there at the same time. First lets all start with Breakfast at the Koffee Kove, we have eaten there a bunch of times and its great.

Breakfast at Koffee Kove is a tradition

Ohhhhhhhh

Go right to the flea market. Buy everything you see that you like. Cause, you may not see it again. We all know that lesson. There will be some fun t shirts and such. Its really a great shopping experience, and the short walk through town is great. Hungry again?  Lunch at Bella’s, beers and wings at O’Brien’s, cocktails at the Channelside, dinner at The Clipper Inn.

The Clipper Inn – Also a tradition and great dinner. Make reservations! no really!

If you need any last minute items while here, the team at Reinman’s Hardware will take care of you. No really. This place is great and you can walk there from the show.

Make sure your Towboat US membership is current and our friends over at Seaway Marine (local Towboat US vendor) will give you a tow or bring you a gas can if you run into trouble on the River.

Did we mention there is a Brewery across the street form the show?

Now of course you can just skip the entire show, and just head over to the Wood Boat Brewery right at the Show ( Did we mention that?)  and just waste your day away drinking and eating amazing Wood Fired Pizza and some fresh Brew. Maybe it’s the diet I am on that is making this all sound so attractive? Mmmmmm, beer and pizza all day…

We are officially on the road today. hopefully we will make it Friday morning. Kent O. Smith is there today as is Phil Andrews. Lets get this party started!

I heard the TI Inn had closed too. Lots of antics on and around the front porch-shopping cart races, water fights, condoms on the bar doorknob, Santa Claus and many more…………..of course no alcohol was involved.

Lyman on the water and Lyman in the glass; guess I will hook up TRUE NORTH (’59 23″ Sleeper) this noon and start the 400 mile trek to Clayton – via the ACBS show tomorrow at the Burlington (Vt) Boathouse.

We were just up there and it looks like the Thousand Island Inn is now pretty much closed up and forgotten. I know at one time there was talk of it being renovated and it was only supposed to be closed for a year or so, but that was a few years ago and it certainly looks abandoned for the most part. Too bad, great place.

The TI Inn was shut down by the town due to complaints from a competitor (and town trustee) across the street and it has been tied up in the courts for a couple years now.

It is also good to have a town government that fights local businesses and spends tax dollars to reduce their tax base. Welcome to corrupt NY State.

The Musky Meal for breakfast at the Koffee Kove! Then a ride on the St Lawrence on a choppy day. Your mileage may vary but still a good time!

No mention or Bertrand’s either…For six or seven years I had a room ( 113 ?) reserved there. Walking distance to the show…Also remember the 1000 Islands Inn….As I recall they served a pretty good dinner in their dinning room.
You’ve got me thinking, I wanna go back…But where would I stay this time ? Probably no room at the Inn, or any where else this side of Alex Bay at this late date.

1000 Island Harbor Hotel in Clayton is excellent and there’s a marina next door but it is pricey as it is a Harbor Hotel. No vacancy at this time but that may change. You may be looking at Watertown about 30 minutes away.

We found the Koffee Kove for breakfast when we were there last week. Great food, notty pine and mahogany decor. What else could you ever ask for in a restaurant!

Heading out in a couple of hours. I miss the Anchor Inn (where the brewery is now). Perfect breakfast- a large coffee and a fresh giant sugared cruller. Sugar and caffeine-just right for getting fired up for flea market negotiation and jabbering with old friends about antique boats.

On Sunday, if you’ve had enough of being overwhelmed by all the woody coolness for 2 days, and find yourself across the 1000 Islands bridge in Ontario, Canada…. Try a nice cider. “No Boats on Sunday” sounds like we should avoid the brand but, it’s awesome.

I know of 2 special boats that will be in the water on Friday, Scotty and Baby Bootlegger, they are definitely not from the 40’s.
