The World Could Benefit From Owning A Woody Boat

,

Woody Boating is good for us all

Social Media! Those two words now bring up so many hard feelings. Whats funny is that it was invented to help people connect, and yet, has become some sort of horrible divisive part of us all. And lately, politics aside…if that is possible, we have had a short fuse as a society and there is instant persecution and mob rule. Agree or disagree, is not the issue. Guilt or not guilt, is not the issue.

When life breaks down, enjoy the moment of peace and quiet. One of my favorite moments of this summer.

Forgiveness of flaws and compromise is. And NOTHING on the planet exemplifies those two qualities blended together with Joy and frustration than a Woody Boat. I will say that my short time in this universe has taught me forgiveness and compromise. An engine that needs to be managed, fixed and cared for, varnish that despite being perfect, ages. Compromising fancy wiz bang electronics that cure all, with an analog world that needs to be tightened and adjusted. All this has helped me cope,  and I feel that if everyone was forced to own a classic boat would learn it all. Or sink, and just sit there on a lake dead in the water alone.

Hammer down!

This past weekend before Micheal ruined all my fun, while running Stinky,  she would randomly start sputtering and stall. Now, the old me would have been pissed at everyone involved. All the way down to the engineer that designed this mess. But now, I pulled out my hammer, original factory hammer BTW, and taped on the carb to free up the jet, and vroom I was off and running. Such is life. When crap gets in the way, pull out your hammer/screwdriver and tap it and move on

They knew this at the factory! It’s part of your boats soul

. You will feel like your smarter and have fun with things that get in the way. After all, wouldn’t life be boring if we all ran perfectly and were all a pontoon boat!

Hmmm. I have a couple bottlenecks at work I might be able to open up with a big old hammer, but I am not sure that is the kind of forgiveness and compromise you were talking about.

As for the electronic destruction of society, if we called it by a more appropriate name like Antisocial Media, people might recognize what it is really doing to them and their interpersonal relationships.

After completing my book on boats made in Holland, Michigan, I told my wife that it was time for me to get back out into the boat shop for some analog time to get my mind straight with some good ole restoration work. It will be good for my soul.

Thank you for reminding all of us about patience and the value it brings to our human lives.

Random sputtering and stalling….pissed off at everyone….including the designers of the mess….oh yeah, sounds exactly like my government and I cannot wait for Nov 6th where we bean a few heads to get back to some smooth running….and I really cannot wait for 2020 when we just replace that old worn out carb that never really did work all that well from day one. And we really need some younger people if we want the big club to survive….
