Plastic In The Oceans – We Have A Plan To Save The Planet!

, ,

Plastic, on plastic, with plastic engines and plastic seats covered in..plastic.

If you are into saving the planet, have we got an idea here on Woody Boater. See plastic trash is literally killing the ocean, Plastic is a wonderful product that can be, and has been formed into everything we touch in our lives. And if you watched the latest 60 minutes story, recycling is not working. 90% of it is NOT recycled.

Just say’n!

So, rather than get into all the problems of plastic and our oceans. We here at Woody Boater are looking for solutions. And its simple. You can do a simple thing.

Good for the planet

Buy a Classic Wood Boat! Yup! That easy.

Like this 1929 Hacker – HERE – Just think, you are saving the world one full throttle run at a time.

This 1929 38 footerwill not only not use plastic, you can pick some up as you cruise.. REALLY! Just see it HERE For sale

Or this Riva Tritone. Think of the purchase this way, Its like a Donation to Greenpeace or something like that. You are such a giving person. SAVE THE PLANET, BUY A RIVA! YA! HERE

You could be in the drivers seat, no really, like now before this thing flies off the page. …of this AMAZING 1938 19 Sportsman – And your kids could sit in the back and look at all the plastic you are not polluting the water with! This is an amazing boat – HERE

Now, see here, the wood on these has already been cut. many before the war, It’s organic, and when life ends for it, it will just dissolve into the earth. And many, most of the parts on the boat rust, or are leather and will disappear.

One will be gone soon, the other.. Will still be there.

Or if it dies in the water, it wont wind up in one of the “Garbage Patches”

Ya, No Chris Craft’s Riva’s in those patches, Gar Woods? Nope. Century’s???? egghhhhh??? JUST KIDDING TOMMY!

Or, get this… you can keep it alive so it doesn’t take up any more space on the planet. Fish wont die chocking on tid bits of it.. or get all tied up in your boat. It’s just you , the woods around you, the water and your classic boat. See, now you can be all smug when you are motoring around out on the lake.

You have permission from the Woods to be on the water by the way. Twin Gar Woods.. WOODS! As in WOOD, or Would you please own a WOOD boat!

When people complain about your carbon foot print that you are big footing all over the place. You can shut their pie hole up and say. Ya, but I aint killing the planet with plastic like you are you… you.. PLASTIC PALLUTE-A-BOATER! Oh ya. I said it.. PALLUTE-A-BOATER!

The current SJW craze is the banning of straws. Allow me to report that according to observers, not a single sea turtle, whale or porpoise had died in any of the Great Lakes from ingesting straws.

I’m not a wild, over the top environmentalist, but I do feel like recycling our wooden boats helps. It’d be a bit hypocritical to claim I’m saving the world. I have a couple of plastic kayaks. We all have plastic. We’re all part of the problem. I don’t know how we can fix that?

OK, Confession here: I follow a number of “Cruisers” on YouTube. Most of them sail (YeGads-did I say “Sail???). Worse yet – most of them sail “Plastic”. Some wood, many wood remodels below decks. But to the point they sail in a number of areas where the international currents push and shove ocean garbage in to collection piles much like in the header above. It is disgusting to see. “Cruiser’s” on the whole tend to be very aware of a judicious use of plastic, recycling, and conservation. Much like Dan T – I’m not sure how to fix this world wide problem.

If everyone that wants to own a boat, bought a classic woody, Problem solved. That’s my myopic view of the thing. Okay, here is another thing, your Kyack is already made, never throw it away. or, as boaters we can be part of the solution. When you see crap in the water, pick it up. Even if its a Jet Ski. Just pick it up and melt it down and make something out of it.

Wouldn’t it be better to take all the plastic in the ocean and recycle it into plastic boats?

Or maybe someone can come up with a process to turn plastic into 80 octane leaded gas for use in low compression flat heads?

I suppose they reuse Clorox bottles and tupoware as boats? Why not a bunch of water bottles. Clear boats would be cool

A view from the other side: wood rots and turns into compost over time. Plastic seems to be invincible.
Why not salvage and resurect plastic boats to keep them out of the recycling stream.
Aluminum boats are easily recycled into, aluminum by the way.

Th oceans will be saved by a 19 year old engineering student who has designed a floating ocean waste processor that separates all waste and processes it (into bales I assume) for recycling. It has deployable booms that encompass the trash There’s another example already being tested mounted to the front of a ship that looks like a wheat thresher to paddle the trash into the open front of the ships processor. We’re saved. Now do what I do, refill that plastic bottle when its empty or drink a beer.

Glad Keuka Lake (home of the pictured Penn Yan Swift) doesn’t look like that. Of course we do have escapee plastic fenders floating from people who can’t figure out that they’re supposed to take them in when out on the water.

The photo was taken I think in Minnisotta. I cloned two other shots from the Garbage Patch in the middle of some horrible place. Your Penn Yan is one of my favorite boats. The detail and stuff in it are perfection. LOVE LOVE the old hand flash light!
