Motoring To Motor City And Beyond! What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

We are Mitten Michigan Motoring!

Today is the day. We hope! Work is making it tough for all of us to get out on time. But, clever as we all are, if we had planned to leave on Thursday, we would have been pushed to Friday, so Wednesday it is. That way .. maybe we get on the road today. this all makes sense…right? Like setting a clock ahead by 10 minutes so you are always on time! Right? So, are plan is to head up to the Torch lake area to pick up a boat.. 14 hrs, then head down to see Don Danenberg about an hr south in Manistee and pick up a Keel, and Chines that have been made for Jimmys 17 foot sportsman.. Then headed to Algonac for the event on Thursday. We will be reporting from the road.. Stay tuned for a fun week of Michiganm fun.

Don’t stop to pee so many times and you will get there sooner! We will be waiting for you guys in Algonac. We are expecting great weather, a great show and a great time all weekend “Where it all Began”.

Ha! I will be pissed off if I am late, thats for sure!

Bay Harbor Vintage Show this weekend… a VERY good show… only 30mins north of Torch…

    • Texx says:

Hi Trevor – I think we have a Woody Boater roving reporter on site this weekend at Bay Harbor too… Stay tuned.

You must have a small bladder.

Remember, at each stop, roll down the windows and listen for banjo music before you exit the vehicle. If you hear banjos, roll ‘em up and continue to the next stop.

  5. m-fine says:

You forgot the stop in Kalamazoo where you will be visiting Bells’ to fill the truck with a dozen kegs.

Watch your speed in Ohio, and try not to stop there either. There are few things in this world that are less pleasent than an encounter with a Buckeye. Once you cross into the Wolverine state things get much better.

I’m leaving in about 21 hours. Since my wife is coming we’ll be making about 2x as many pee stops since she is unable to pass up any Starbucks along the way. I’m also praying the varnish is dry or I’m going to arrive with every bug stuck to Panther.

  7. Bill Foley says:

    The question is:
Do you pee on the opposite side of the tree on the return trip?

  8. floyd r turbo says:

Substituting a porta potty for your drivers seat might improve your trip time. But then there’s the issue of going thru toll booths or tractor trailer truck drivers to deal with – just bring a modesty towel.

  9. Texx says:

This probably doesn’t happen on an Ohio turnpike, but when I looked at todays header it made my think…

Why is it that you can be driving (or riding) along the loneliest stretch of highway in the country, no traffic in site… and when you pull over for a quick quick pee in the ditch, a car magically appears out of nowhere?

Even on a gravel road in Wyoming, pee and they will come…

Or a cop wanting to know why you have to pee…

    • jimmuh says:

Texx – header pic looks like a Paul H. wanna-be, GM truck stopped alongside the road in a particularly empty spot…..

(never happen with a SuperDuty……) snark

      • Texx says:

The Woody Boater Mobile Unit in today’s header was correct for the period (circa 2010), with the old graphics…

    have a great trip.
an alternative route from Manistee to Algonac (which is sinful btw) is to back to Bay City then to Port Huron and then south to Algonac. Avoid the motor city freeways at all cost. U Pee I Pee We all Be in the UP again (a Hessel song for ya)

While you’re already stopping in Toledo to pee, I would recommend stopping at a Tony Packo’s for a Hungarian Chili Dog (Klinger’s favorite). There is an “express” location just a minute off 23 on Monroe (exit there). If you have time, the main location downtown is awesome. Enjoy your trip!

    • m-fine says:

Get a few cases of the pickles and peppers as well. They will be good to munch on with your Bells beer.

    • Texx says:

Ha – Matt & I are suppose to be bunking on a boat in Algonac this weekend (no, not a pontoon boat) so I HOPE he avoids the Tony Packo’s Hungarian Chili Dogs, pickles, and peppers en route to Michigan.

  12. Rick says:

Keep hearing about Bells and Oberon beer so I picked up a case of Blue Point Summer Ale that’s brewed here on Long Island, hoping to trade few brews and laughs this weekend.

    • Texx says:

After talking about the Algonac show since February, it’s great that it’s only a day away now.

      Go Panther, Go…

      • Rick says:

Played it tight with her prep, can’t pick her up until 10AM tomorrow, then straight to MI. Looks like a midnight arrival if I’m lucky. Looking forward to the show and meeting everyone.
