Driving Miss Sylvia…To Ohio!

This morning we are up bright and early getting ready for the big trip to The Antique Boat Center to deliver Sylvia to her place in purgatory. Her fate will rest in there hands.

All of Sylvia’s records are all packed up… ouch! I still have yet to add them up..

I am very comfortable with that since I know they care as much as I do. She will go to another heaven very soon. A wonderful fresh water place were there are no waves and where boat houses are embraced. I have told Sylvia that she is going to a boat show.. an indoor show with other boats. Like the farm that my dog spot went to when I was just a kid. I know she will be happy, but for now, I am miserable… I am torn, and not sure. But it is time. I have moved on… And today.. driving 17 hours.. Oy! The good news is that I will be near the Crisco Plant! mmm lard, then  a couple hours of Vintage boats… That will fill my heart right back up.. To see Sylvia with all her new woody friends… I know she is going to a great place. More later on the trip, and the sad good by..

This post should have a musical soundtrack. I'm thinking the second movement to Dvorak's Symphony #9, "From the New World."

Hey Miss Sylvia. Welcome to the Great Lakes. Com'on in the waters fine. Lots of your relatives around and your home town. Hopefully you will find another WoodyBoater to show you around.

WoodyBoater, I thought for sure that you would take Sylvia to Algonac to take part in the unveiling of the Smith-Wood memorial before your final farewell with her. She will be disappointed.

That was my plan but to be honest I would never have sold her after that. It would have been way to emotional. Today was rough. Very rough. I honestly feel like I am abandoning her. Even though I know she is in a fantastic place. It's not home…. All this emotion over a pile of mahogany….. Crazy.

I would say that I understand but it wouldn't be true. You are going through this emotion, not me. So, until I experience it myself, there's no way to feel it first hand. I know the connection you can build with "things" like a "pile of mahogany" is real.

Rest assured that her next steward will quickly build the same emotional bond to her as you have and that she will be in loving hands. Her history will have yet another new chapter, and many more to come.

Why are you selling it? You can have more than one boat ya know. Looks like you have the facilities to store and maintain it. It's a 401k you can play with.
