A Bright New Holm For Mr Setterholm

Nice and clean..for now
Fellow Woody Boater Mark Setterholm shared with us all his new clean white space to store and work on his woody boats. Now this is the white Christmas I am dreaming about!
I took this old 40′ x 60′ Quonset barn building – spray foam insulated it, put in a new, insulated 14′ high by 16′ wide garage door, poured a new concrete floor with in-floor heat, then epoxy coated it. New lighting and electrical and, waa la, we’re ready to work on boats this winter! Hope you’re well! (That is my 30′ Lyman Sportsman in the sling).
Here is a few pics of the building right after we had the floor epoxied.
This will be the cleanest it will ever be.
I think we should be able to work on quite a few boats in here at one time… even with a 30’ Lyman in there all the time. (I’m going to start to restore another one soon.)
The difference between men and boys is the quality of their toybox! (And what is in them)
Nice!
What a wonderful space!
Congratulations!
Very nice! I dream about smooth floors, gantry cranes and ceiling space.
Whatcha doing for humidity?
Looks great Mark! Is this close to the Twin Cities? I’d love to visit, may even have some wall art for you! Gives me inspiration to get my floors epoxy coated! Merry Christmas to all in Woodyboater land!
great! looks like extra room, where ya located?
Bet I could sneak Panther into a corner for some varnish work and he’d never even notice me. Beautiful space.
Humidity is holding at 52%!
We are just west of the twin cities!
Here are a couple of pics from the start.

Great shop area! Wish I would have painted my walls before installing racking and moving motors off the floor.
Now that’s impressive…Guess the difference between the men and the boys is the size and quality of the place where they keep their toys…
Merry Christmas to all
Congratulations, Mark! (Does Sandy know about it?)
Very nice…every mans dream. One word comes to mind …JEALOUS!
Wow! Keep those boat shop pictures coming, Mark. Awesome! D. Thomas, I think your motor rack is my new “screen saver”.
Very nice Mark.
I did the same thing this summer. After 15 years I finally got around finishing my 40′ X 64 ‘ storage building by spray foaming the walls, insulating the ceiling , pouring a concrete floor, new wiring, more lights, and paneling the walls and ceiling. I just wish I would have epoxied the floors like yours.
I too am glad to have a great workspace to play with boats during the winter months.
Here is the before picture.
During waiting on a concrete floor.
Concrete floor poured. My wallet was much lighter at this point.
Finally finished and boats are starting to get worked on.
Looking forward to a busy winter in the shop.
Merry Christmas everyone.
Cleaner than an operating room. Reminds me of an igloo and appropriately enough in Minnesota should be covered in snow but not this year. You’ll need to run ice water for cooling in your “in-floor” system this year. You may need sunglasses to work in there its so bright which is great for us older folks.
Looks like a great boat shop! I wish I could even walk all the way around our little boat when in the garage!!
Although, I have to ask, why the desire for epoxy floors? I have heard of issues arising when wet car or trailer tires sit in one place for any length of time (like over a winter)… Is this something others have experienced? It looks like Mr. Setterholm has his boats on dollies with steel casters which would not have rubber/water/epoxy contact… I ask cause I have looked at epoxy coating my garage but we have a truck and boat trailer that sit in there most of the year (we live only a few blocks from the ramp so the boat comes back home after every use).
Been a long time in the process and turned out better than expected….
Good luck!!
