BARN FIND! – We All Know What Mark Edmonson Is Doing This Memorial Day Weekend!

Ohh to open a garage door and see this! AhhhhhH!
Looong time Fellow Woody Boater Mark Edmonson from Michigan got the call we all dream about. Here is his Amazing Michigan Prerestoric Barn Find! Ahhhh, I am excited for Mark. I know all I would be doing all weekend is making sweet love to the boat!
Text and Matt
I received a call from a friend that he knew of an old Chris Craft in a barn since the 70’s. He thought it might be from the 50’s and about 20′. I contacted the grandson of the owner and set up a meeting. As he lifted up the barn door to my surprise. A 1930 model 100. Completely intact no one had butchered her. Just sitting in the corner covered in dust. All original hardware, original KM Chrysler. After looking her over we agreed on a price and shook hands and made the deal!!! Can’t wait to get to the shop and see if she will start up!

Ohhhh!

The age, the patina, the history. To take the wheel of all that time tucked away!

OK, thats the mess that needs to be dealt with

Oh the places this engine has gone. ON THE ORIGINAL 6V POINTS!

The gauge says O, but that soon will change

OK the hatch needs some sort of attention. Maybe there is a way to Patina restore it! I smell a story!… And some old gas

Get ysed to the sunshine old girl. Your about to get a full dose

Nice seams.

Dang

mmm that plastic filter aint so old

More interior

This could be a cool fix.

Its all there, but ya kinda got to be not all there to get why this is so cool! Get out this weekend. Give rides, spread varnish smiles all over the world! happy Memorial Day Weekend!
Always awesome to read stories about finding that old forgotten boat in the dusty barn!! Gives hope that some of the rare models may still be out there hiding…
Cool score and will be even better if she can go to at least one show without having to be restored or heavily worked on at least..
She is slated to go to Port Huron in this condition. WECATCHEM and Wise’s CHERUP and The Ramsey Bros Cool Dart all have a partner in crime now! WE ARE THRILLED!
Partners in grime. What a great find. Welcome to the Woodyboater family!
Condition wise, that’s one of those rare barn finds I’d almost hate to do anything to other than maybe dust it off and clean it up, get the engine to run and fix up the trailer just enough to get her to shows. As a Prerestoric she’s a 10 out of ten. Congratulations!
Incredible find! I can’t wait to see it in person! Looks like there may definitely be some bottom work needed but Prerestoric is what will be great to see!!
As the saying goes…sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good. Kudos on the find.
What a find!
Just goes to show you that this stuff is still out there to be found!
Good one Mark!
I bet is was the pesky points and condenser that caused the owner to shove it in the barn.
Wow, I’m still trembling! Can’t wait to see her in Port Huron in September.
Now that truly is a time capsule. Nice to know there are still surprises tucked away for people to find.
I know its in bad taste to ask and I’m not really expecting an answer, but what did you pay for that gem.
What a great find! I wonder when it was last used as it appears to have a plastic in-line fuel filter installed.
There is a registration tag on the hull, but I can’t read the year in the photo. Maybe Matt can help us out.
Boat put in barn in 1971 put hoping he would use it he bought tags up to 1984. Health conditions kept him from launching her. Going to leave here in the state she in and run it
Good for you!
Mark I am sure you know this, but I always like to stress that these vintage boats used the cooper fuel line to ground the fuel tank. With that in line plastic filter the ground is no longer effective. PLEASE make sure the tank is grounded some other way.
Thanks Troy but it’s not my first rodeo. Been scratching on old woody’s for forty years….
Even (especially?) those with a lot of rodeos in the rear view mirror can forget little things here and there, plus there are always others looking on, so it never hurts to float a friendly reminder.
Just reaching out to all you Lyman fans for some info.
Found a 25 ft 1965 hard top on a trailer for cheap
Besides all the ordinary stuff to look for are there any secrets that Lyman’s are noted to have?
Well, not sure but bring Herb with you! Also, I’d be happy to dispatch Karen down to get you checked out at the helm!
Nice boats, LOVE the lapstrakes and long may they live!
Wonderful find. Congrats. Glad you are keeping her as close as practical / safe as you found her.
Beautiful Find! My gosh I am with you just dust her off and check out the engine and launch her. Please post photos.
Good luck!
Back from GOING BOATING! leaving this weekend to the start of summer/holiday crazies.
So I get home and find this story…. OMG!
may be best barn find ever on here….
John in Va…..
Hello Mark,
I’m trying to reach you on FB to discuss our boats. We both have the same boat. Please contact me.
Thanks.
Beautiful find! I hope what appears to be white sealant in the bottom seams is not 5200 or Sika or something similar. It will blow the chines off the frames when the bottom swells. But, as indicated this is not the first rodeo for the new owner, so I suspect all will be well when that gem floats again! 🙂
Hello there Mark! Iain Avers here – Tom’s grandson. Good to see you’re still a woody boater. Great find! I’m sure you’ll make her shine.
