ROAD TRIP! Southern Style.

We hung up the phone and said. ROAD TRIP! and on the road by noon.
It was a year ago almost to the day that we made a 12 hr hail Mary drive to New Hampshire to pick up WECATCHEM, and oddly enough, we are on the road again to pick up another barn find boat. This time, we are not quite sure what she is, but have a hunch from the description. Its around 16-17 feet, has a rounded back, with one seat in the front, and a seat in the way back. YES, YES, YES! Been sitting in a Dairy barn since 1970.. YES, Ran when we put it in there. YA, OK, Its painted..Oh, Red white and blue. WHAT? We can be there tomorrow!

Hitting South Carolina around 7
So, this weekend instead of heading north to Clayton or other shows, we are on a mystery road trip. You can join us here on the fun journey. Reporting may be spotty, since its located 12 hours South here on a farm. This is what life is all about. Stay tuned. Now if you will excuse me I need to run to the drug store for some hemorrhoid cream and Depends, cause we aint stopp’n for noth’n! Ya’ll!

Small country roads in Georgia by 10 PM.. Getting closer. Stay tuned for updates. What is it? Is it a painted something. Its like Mystery Date!
Sounds too small to be Red & White. Late ’30s era Gentleman’s Racer?
RUN – FOREST – RUN!
Rocket?
We have no idea since owners can confuse stuff and stuff can be painted over the years. We just arrived in town. Secret. Will know soon what we have
I guess its a secret since you haven’t asked about places to eat from the community. Not that that works out anyway. LOL. Safe travels, take pictures and keep in touch. Wait now I sound like your Dad…. do what you want and don’t get arrested.
Hope you don’t see this guy in the rear view.
Hope you find an unmolested CC 16 special race boat. Can’t wait!!
The suspense is killing me!!!!!
It sounds like a 16ft Chris Craft Special Race Boat. Most were painted red, white and blue and were built 1937 thru 1940. They had a small second cockpit behind the engine which had a removable hatch. They were CC’s first barrelback.
Matt, if it’s a 16′ Special Race Boat, you’ll have a treasure that was the inspiration behind “Sindbad” according to the family. I hope it is – there aren’t many of those out there and you will do it right! 🙂
Oh goodie a road trip! A mystery and a possible rare boat! What could be better? You’all have fun!!!
Well, even if it isn’t a Special Race Boat or Rocket at least we should have a report on the best Bar-B-Q in Dixie from the return trip.
Hopefully, they haven’t exaggerated their product.
Are we there yet?
Is this like a cliff hanger!?
I’m hungry and have to use the potty. Are we ALMOST there?
OK – so my observation: It appears Matt is establishing a new WB tradition of buying a boat the first week of August every year. I can’t wait to see what happens as the years go by… 😉
Uh oh. Head over for my usual fix on Bringatrailer . com, and they have a ’42 Chris Craft. On to woodyboater.com for my regular vintage runabout blog update, and no update!
When do we send out the search party?
The seller posted a picture on Facebook so now Matt can’t cover the rest of the story.
Funny!!
I have some inside information (and photos) on the barn find boat, but would never crash Matt’s party. Facebook doesn’t deserve to see this gem…
Leave it to Matt to rebrand the needle in the hay stack! Now we are going to have to call it a rare woody in the hay stack! Safe travels! I hope it’s a 16′ racing runabout as well with a nice KA engine in it!
