The Woody Boater Lifestyle Takes Over the U.S., Canada, and The World!

Today Spokane, tomorrow the world. Wait, we already have the world.... tomorrow, Mars!

My fellow Woody Boaters, I pleased to announce that we have now officially taken over the U.S. and soon will dominate Canada and the rest of the world. Later this week and into next week we will also be reporting from The great Down Under from our New Zealand office. With reporters now in almost every major classic boating area, we can now report on any event that happens in Classic Boating live. Texx and I started looking through the data. It’s crazy. With in 4 short years, you the readers and contributors have shown the world that the Woody Boater lifestyle is alive and well, and growing. yes.. Growing. With web hits growing to over 4 million last year and trending towards a 20% increase this year. You have made Woody Boater the most read publication in the hobby, passion, sport, what ever you want to call it.

We have had the Boulder office for some time now, but we also have had one in Calgary, Hessel, Lake Tahoe, Traverse City Michigan, Chicago,  and now Lake George, Spokane, Portland, Austin, Algonac, Lake Dora Florida, Oklahoma, Iowa, Idaho, Oregon, Washington State, Ohio, Clayton, Lake Hopatcong, Minneapolis, South Carolina, Lake Minnetonka, Los Angeles, Orlando, Lake Arrow Head, Toronto, Sweden, Australia, New Zealand.. The list goes on.. No Wyoming yet. These are not just readers locations. These are folks that contribute regular stories, information and advice and  go to shows to report, and contribute there brain power to improve things. We are marketing people, tech experts, Social media stars, Music stars, Tech giants, restorers, Bankers, Lawyers, Doctors, Collectors, Financial people, photographers, artists, ACBS board members and current and past presidents, event organizers, web designers, architects, Engineers, all as readers and offering much needed advice.  No editors though or HR department. THANK GOD! We were as shocked as you may be to see how this has all played out. So what next? We expand. We reach different groups that admire these wonderful water craft and ask them to be part of the lifestyle. We stay ahead of technology to spread the gospel. If you saw this past Mecum auction, you could have seen it live streaming on Woody Boater. We plan to do more of that this year. With live streaming of our speech in Lake Arrowhead and Algonac. And for the first time ever. In Tavaras Florida. We are doing the Woodys for boobies program starting next week with a walk in Denver! last year we raised $20,000 for the Avon Breast Cancer walk. We have also expanded in other platforms to spread the word. Facebook , and now Pinterest. For those of you unaware of Pinterest. It is the future, At this time it’s growing faster than Facebook or Twitter was at its infancy. It also reaches a new audience that we must reach. Note that with in just one week, it has become in our top 50 of traffic sources.. One week!

In three weeks we will meet up in Tavares, we will be in a huge tent right in the thick of things. We invite you to come by and sit a spell and have a good laugh.     Thanks to the Woody Boater team, it is amazing what you have accomplished in 4 yrs. I don’t remember my first internet stop 5 yrs ago, but WB is first now. Now in all of Woody Boater world there must be someone, who knows someone in Wyoming and get them to log on to WB. See you in Mt Dora!

    Matt, Texx and all the rest. Congradulations and Thankyou. I enjoy my time on WoodyBoater since it is one of the few places that I can say what is on my mind. My boats. It is so small I can only fit one thought. Wood Boats. Who knew I could fit all sorts of other thoughts like zippers and chicken on a stick in there as well. You have helped make me a better, well rounded person, and I get to laugh alot as the world breaks up around me.

    I think the next phase should be the mail order merchandising business. We need Sons of Varnish shirts and flags, Woody Weiners, Woody boater varnish repair/lip gloss, official Woody boater orange footwear, and new production custom Woody Boater hats.

    We need a WoodyBoater Rehab Resort. We tell our spouses we’re going there to help break the habit, but in reality it will be more of a support group vacation. And it looks like it can be anywhere in the world now. “Really honey, the only place I can go to for help is Italy or New Zealand.”

    Thanks Matt, Texx and all the contributors. The live on site reporting, first caught my eye as something cool and different, when I first found this site.
    I was always on my Camaro website everyday, chatting with all the people I knew, who loved Camaros. But since I bought Old School a couple of years back, and found this site, I am on here first thing I fire up the ol’ computer each day. Oh, and I can’t remember when was the last time I was on the Camaro site…
    Thanks for all you do for the hobby/lifestyle. And thanks to all the people who respond and make me laugh each day. I rarely read in detail responses. But on this site, it is almost better than some daily story, almost.

    Looking forward to seeing many of you in Tavares. Just got a hall pass for the Race Boat Show as well as the Boat Show. Unfortunately no boat this year but I will have beer. Anyone who sees a balding tall fatguy from Canada walking the docks feel free to offer him a ride.

    Matt – I checked out pininterest, and to me it is an on-line emetic. Perhaps either it or I can evolve, but I think I have hit my saturation point with this social media stuff….

    Its the future. I can get deep into it from a marketing perspective. But in a nutshell, its about push marketing vs Pull marketing. The images it pushes out to you based on your interests are not things you may have been looking for, therefore I have reached you in an unexpected way. For example, if you are into Architecture, chances are you like classic boats, but are not exposed to them. On Pinterest, you follow architecture as one of the things you like, if I place wood boats on that subject. I have reached a reseptive market that would not have been searching for classic boats. This is marketing on a grand social scale. Its far far more visual than Facebook, and forget twitter. Time marches on..

      It would seem that a waiting list to get on would be more of a turn off and tick people off than anything else. Seems silly for a site that’s trying to grow.

    Has some genius written an algorithim to predict what my range of untapped interests might be if I happen to like recipes, or cars, or shaker style furniture? Is this like the old subliminal messages people yacked about in the ’40’s and ’50’s? I don’t get the connection between architecture and boats, anymore than a guy who likes architecture might be interested anything else with a design element to it. The leap is too wide.

    I see pininterest is something like 70%+ woman, and is dominated by things that one might expect a woman to be interested in. I guess that will change, but I don’t need to be told by some site that I might be interested in something, and then have them have them bombard me with “personalized” entreaties to buy, or to “share” my likes with people I don’t know and who don’t, or shouldn’t, care about me or what I think.

    It may be big but the concept of it repels me. I see it streaming by on my facebook – somebody has pinned a recipe, or shop they like or something. It tried to block it but have not yet succeeded. I just sent through my google settings and blocked EVERYTHING that tries to “personalize” ads and improve my browsing experience. I guess if one signs up for this junk then they invite it all, but persoanlly – I am opting out. Twitter and things which “reach out to you” breed a bunch of narcisisstic people that are deluded into thinking that people, other than those trying to sell them something, actually care about what they do, buy or what their dog looks like. There is my rant for the day….

      Do a google search for an article about the algorithm Target uses to tell which shoppers are pregnant. You absolutely can predict people’s unknown interests from information that may seem unrelated.

        Perfect, Matt – the best of all possible reasons to stay away from pintinterest. Why would anyone put themselves into the crosshairs of marketers who want nothing but convince them to buy.

        Personally, I know what I am interested in already and don’t need to have somebody “push” something into my face to try to induce me to buy it. It is rather predatory and shallow. If I need something, I go find it, I don’t wait for the power of faux social suggestion to induce me to buy the future detritus of interests I never had.

        But I can see why Matt Smith likes it, he is a marketer and gets it – he is paid to sell to people. I am a consumer who is sick of being bombarded with crap. Our perspectives are simply diametrically opposed.

    I love this site!!!! I don’t give a damn about ANY of that social media crap…..GO BOATING! Read some Thoreau, or Faulkner….or have a chain saw root canal…anything but social (anti…) media….remember troops the media is the MASSAGE…..not the message….MM had it wrong.
    Checking Woodyboater and CCABC every day is all I need for peace and happiness. See you all in Tavares…..3pm friday for the group pix…..we will use a wide angle lens….

      You might be streamed live on the internet from WB at Tavares though, and maybe Matt will be on Twitter by then, tweeting to his legions of followers that he spotted you in the throngs!
