If you’re looking for a place to go this coming May in the Midwest, consider this one. It’s a Boat Show Extravaganza. The City of Muscatine, Iowa and The Clear Lake Chapter of the ACBS are co-sponsoring the event.

The 2008 Blue Poster

Muscatine, Iowa will be celebrating their 100’th Anniversary of boat racing on the Mississippi River this May 15th thru 18th, 2008. This is the 2nd Annual Muscatine Boat Show and Racing Boat Exhibition. It will feature antique and classic wood boats, classic fiberglass and aluminum boats, classic cars and motorcycles and, of course, antique, classic and modern racing boats of all kinds. There will be a display of race cars as well. There will definitely be Boat Racing going on.

The 2008 Orange Poster

Muscatine, Iowa was the first place on the Mississippi that power boat racing was done. The date was July 4th, 1908, so this year marks the 100th year for the Muscatine Power Boat Club and Mississippi Boat Racing.

Another event scheduled for this festive occasion is the Cardboard Race Regatta. The rules are that the race boat must be made entirely of corrugated cardboard. It needs to hold up long enough to complete two laps around a small island on the river front. Should be fun and interesting for all ages. Here’s the Rules.

Sure looks like fun

Muscatine, Iowa is in the south-east corner of the state, about a 5 hour drive from St. Louis, MO, about 3.5 hours west of Chicago and 1.5 hours from Cedar Rapids (not Rapid City), IA, home of the Chris Craft Antique Boat Club Headquarters.

Al, you all correct until you got to rapid City! That’s in South Dakota. The Chris-Craft Antique Boat Club is based in Cedar Rapids…about 1.5 hours from Muscatine.

Amazing! Sorry about that, folks. CEDAR RAPIDS is the home of the CCABC HQ. It’s fixed now.

I attended Muscatine in ’07 and had a great time! The host club did a fantastic job – the venue is spectacular – the people were wonderful!

Can’t recommend it enough. I’ll be there this May – perhaps with a boat – perhaps with an empty hitch :~)
