On Thursday & Friday Robert Miracle captured some nice images of two rare wooden speedboats that are attending the 2011 Lake Hartwell Antique Boat Festival in South Carolina. “Quikie” is a very cool 1965 Dunphy 17′ X-55 owned by Ben & Myrna Huizinga from Port Sheldon, Michigan. They have owned the Dunphy X-55 for 30 years, it is a preserved boat with only basic maintenance such as a re-varnish and new interior.
“Quikie” is powered by a 215 HP Ford 312 Y-block V-8, connected to a velvet drive transmission. The Y-block configuration was Ford’s first ever over head valve V-8. Ben commented that the boat performs very well with the small V-8 and they still use it today for family outings, water skiing with the kids, and that it’s just a great all around runabout.
Ben Huizinga’s company, Lakeshore Classics also builds custom enclosed boat trailers. The perfect way to transport your classic boat without being damaged from highway debris, keeping it spotless when on the road and in storage, while providing security for your treasure.
The Compact Skier is owned by David & Elaine Keaton and it looks great on the water. From the photos, it looks like David is enjoying his ride on Lake Hartwell, smiles all around for the two speedboat owners…
