These old Gar Wood plant photos are impressive and fun to see, we are fortunate that Joel offered to share them with Woody Boater.

I’m sure Dick Kish and Paul Harrison will enjoy seeing them too, considering they currently own the remaining rare Gar Wood sedans from 1946/47.

    Thanks Joel!

I’m glad John Weber approached me in Tavares with these photos and trusted me with them so I could copy them. The sedan at the top of the page (varnished transom) could be the Harrison’s under construction. It appears the negative may have been turned over when developed when looking at the steering wheel location.

Joel – Maybe the photo showing the steering wheel on the left side of the sedan was a special order designated for a European Gar Wood dealer… a European movie boat…

Who wants to start the rumor? Oops – Just kidding.

Love any old photos… From any of the plants… One of my favorite is a photo published in one of Bob Speltz’ books.. It is of the Ventnor factory 1948…

Dont you dare! HA. I looked into that, none of the other shots were flopped so the person would have to have gone out of there way to flop that image wrong

On Pauls sedan the exhaust pipe is to port and the fuel vent and steering wheel are to starboard. I’m guessing the negative was developed backwards. Just sayin……

Also, the third photo on the earlier set of factory photos (in Story 1) today shows a Gar Wood sedan with twin exhaust. Hmmm…. What’s that mean? Brian?

  5. LB

the third photo looks like a twin screw overnighter probably the same boat that Carolina classic boats has for sale.
