Thursday morning at the 39th Annual Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance, today is set up day with boats arriving fast and furious, exhibitors setting up tents, and the scent of varnish is in the air at Sierra Boat Company! Above is “Empress” a stunning 1938 22′ Gar Wood Streamliner owned by Tim & Brian Robinson from Robinson Restoration in Fallbrook, California.

Everywhere you look you can see antique & classic Gar Woods, over 30 will be in attendance this year.

When the boats arrive at Sierra Boat Company, the staff carefully move the boats from the trailers into the water with a huge gantry. This is a very effective system and it all happens in just a few minutes. Here’s a Chris-Craft going in the drink.

Chief Judge & Chris-Craft Antique Boat Club President Terry Fiest (left) with legendary boat collector & historian Al Schinnerer from California Classic Boats visiting by the gantry.

“Madellene” a very cool, very new 2011 Van Dam 29′ Gentlemens Racer, her first show ever.

Fellow Woody Boater Ralph Wallen shining her up, all smiles as usual.. Ralph is a great guy with a ton of knowledge and experience.

“Baby Skipalong” getting some last minute detailing before she goes in the water. “Baby Skipalong” is a 1924 26′ Gold Cup Nevins Racer and is popular wherever she goes, she won multiple awards at the recent South Lake Tahoe Show a few weeks ago. She is owned by Ed & Deborah Scott of Oakland, California, collectors of many wooden boats in Tahoe.

Stay tuned for more Live-ish updates from beautiful Lake Tahoe, California, the fun is just beginning!
