Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey. After not seeing the water in years. She is back in the water and moving under her own power. This is one of the most exciting days in years for us here at Woody Boater. What started out as a simple fun story, today has hit a new high. Thayer IV U22 1460 the main picture boat for the film On Golden Pond is back in the water fully restored and preserved. This has been a massive team effort led by Seth Katz of Katzs Marina. Here are some happy images of the event.

In the water

The Gang is all there, Tommy at the helm with Wayne Moxfeild in the back and I think thats Dave Van Ness standing

Great day! The perfect waters for a relaunch. Congrats to the Katz crew

  2. Texx

It’s fantastic to see Thayer IV back in the water after all those years!  She looks beautiful.

The only thing missing is Billy and his fishing rod…

  3. chad

Let Billy drive so he can back-up into the dock and knock that goofy swim ladder off the transom.

  4. chad

Oh, I forgot… Congrats to the restoration team!
    The boat looks awesome.

  5. chad

You’d have to be a gymnast to use that ladder.
Take Jim Staib for a swim in Tavares and see if he can climb out of the water on that thing.

    • Texx

If Jim Staib agrees to the swim ladder test, do we have to remind Jim that there are alligators in them there waters…

      • ARRRGH!

Aw, shucks, Texx, they’re friendly gators as long as you don’t mention sports to them!

        • Pumpkin

You betcha . . . sent my son-in-law overboard to clear sea grass out of the jet drive intake – they just winked . . . . (he’s a Florida Gator, you know).  True Story.  Cross my transom and hope to die!

Guys, the boat looks fantastic!!  It is such a great piece of wooden boat history, it is great Thayer IV is alive and looking so fantastic!!
    Great Job!! Well done!!

  7. Alex

Having bought a boat at Seth’s place, while I was there, I was privileged to see other boats go through the same restoration gauntlet as T IV.  They were simply stunning. I’ll never forget the 20′ Custommmmmmmm.

I know, even before seeing T IV star in “On Brackish Lake,” (Dora) she will be gorgeous.  I believe Seth is the right man to own her as well.

Having said these nice (and true) things, can I get a ride on the bow?

OMG!!! So Beautiful! I went to Neiman Marcus today in Beverly Hills and nothing got me as excited as Thayer IV!!!
I have a U22 and dream of an extreme make over.
    Brilliant Job!

I’m not trying to start trouble here but I had to laugh as just today I just got a Google alert  bringing me to this page:http://yachte.com/news/story.asp?story=36113. The link is to yachte.com advertising the upcoming Sanctuary Cove Boat show in Australia I believe. The article says “with a one -of -its-kind, classic Chris Craft runabout which featured in the film “On Golden Pond”. Really!!!

      • Texx

Thanks Kerry – Looks like the legend lives on, even in Australia…

  9. RiverRat

Let me check I think there are a couple more Thayers floating around someplace in Jersey as well.
You have wet my whistle, I can’t wait till t he Century gets turned loose. Lapstrake anticipation

Too bad you can’t get some of the stars from the movie to Tavares…like the then child star……that would be an incredible reunion too……great looking job on this boat…..such quality work !!!! Nothing less from these guys.

  11. Alex

Henry and Katherine couldn’t make it.  As for Billy, he’s done gone and got himself all grown up:    http://www.dougmckeon.com/  On the Gallery page, Billy, er Doug, does not list Woody Boating among his hobbies or equipment.  It says he likes Playstation.  However, he redeems himself partially when he says his favorite libation is beer.  So there’s hope.  Give him a beer on a boat and I’ll bet he’ll be begging to buy Thayer IV.

    • ARRRGH!

Many kudos to Seth and his team!  T-4 looks great.  Too shiny, but great!!!  If she were mine, I wouldn’t have it any other way!  I’ll be there to see and covet, covet, covet . . . . although, my real tue love would have to be Mariah!

      • WoodyGal

REALLY? OH! I KNOW IT’S THOSE ALLURING DARK HULLSIDES THAT YOU LOVE!

  12. brian t

  13. brian t

Oh jeez, now I spell like Matt.

.. I would like to hear this baby, not here it.

  14. Rabbit

I know it’s 100% correct, but that ladder looks like the one on my pontoon boat. Wait a minute, did I admit I have a pontoon boat?

    • Texx

You forgot to mention that it’s one of those rare old “Mahogany” pontoon boats from the 40’s…

  15. John Rothert

    Relaunchings!!! what a thrill…..
    “go boating”
