The First App for the classic boat hobby. Just go to the app store on your iphone or ipad and BAM, you are liv'n in the future! Looking at the past..

Now that the economy seems to be improving a tad, many of you are out looking for a cool boat to fill that hole in your barn. The One in your head, well that’s another story..  For those of you that are still trying to buy or sell a classic boat by sending out “snap shots” in snail mail. You may want to sit down before you read this. The good folks at Antique Boat America (LINK HERE TO READ MORE) have launched the latest tool in there digital arsenal to help folks find there true love. Now.. To help here, I will publish the yet unreleased release. BUT my 2 cents. actually .99 cents. I have to say.. . And WOW.. WOWOWOWOW! shhh don’t tell the web designer of Antique Boat America’s web site this. But the App is better than the site. It makes navigation easy. It’s fast and well.. portable, clean, clutter free.. WOW.. Just think.. You can go see a boat 100 miles away and BAM while you are looking at the boat, find others that you may rather have or compare to. Right at your finger tips..

NOW.. Also think of this for a second.. You show up to Mr Snograsse’s house. It’s his treasured century whatever, just restored…in 1975.. He says it’s worth a gillion bucks. It was his as a kid.. yada yada. The problem, you love the boat, but its worth $500 – well BAM whip out the app, BUT then go the Hagerty Price Value web site and see the value range..( not an app ..YET!) And KAPOW you have a legit argument for your pricing. Both by a guide and for what things are going for. This APP and Price Value guide, are GAME Changers for the hobby.  Congrats to the good folks at Antique Boat America for leading the way!

You would think that wooden boat lovers would not fall into the Apple sheep category;) We don’t wait in long lines every 6-months to buy the latest version of the I-something (do we?). Cool App though and maybe there will be a Google/Android version someday. I’ll save my Apple rants for another forum. Baa.

Apple’s business model is to make a product the consumer is willing to pay for, even at a premium price. Google’s model is to give away a product to the consumer so they can mine your data and sell it. Are you sure it is the Apple consumer who is the silly sheep?

Never really thought about that, guess it doesnt mater, my cell phone is so old, well how old? well I just upgraded from two tin cans and string…..

Does it link to a site for Divorce Lawyers also? Makes temptation even easier.

Is that App icon, with its anchor (symbolizing deadweight) wrapped in chain (symbolizing shackles and powerlessness), merely an innocent nautical theme or scary close to what owning an old boat feels like on certain days?

Wait, is that anchor grinning at me? Do I see a sword in its pointed vertical axis? A grave marker? There are exactly 13 links to that chain (if you count the hidden ones). What does that mean?!? Aggghhhhh.

Oh, wait, it’s just a cool boat finder. Whew.

Just got the app….very polished, great to see all the pics in full screen.

Now I have to buy another boat!

  6. Don Ayers

Got the app on iPhone, very easy and worth a dollar!

    Way to go ABA

Kudos to ABA for the new app. Most users would be visitors to this site, our chapter members for the most part, probably not. They’re still in the hard copy mode. I couldn’t even get them to standardize on a show registration format productivity tool such as MS Word or even .pdf format. They still send out registration forms as a jpeg file.

Technology these days is so amazing… Even basic technology.

Like most things, once the folks see and understand the benefits of the technology, it is easier to accept the technology at all levels.

But – Waking up in the middle of the night and checking Woody Boater on the iPhone in the dark… Yikes!

    • Rick

Wait, you mean not everyone reads WoodyBoater at night with the lights off, maybe a scented candle lit, when they’re all alone?

  9. Christina

Excellent layout and simple to use
The first of its kind and long awaited
Boaties can now use 21st century technology to search for that perfect antique boat they have always wanted

  10. Patty

Fantastic! Totally worth the 99 cents. It looks awesome on my iPad. Thanks ABA. The future is here.

  11. Alex

Varnish-scented candles. Ha. Good one. Now, where can I get me some?

No, really. Winter in Hessel is so looooooooooooooong. Any link to boating helps.
