ACBS HIRES NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Antique and Classic Boat Society, Inc. is pleased to announce the hiring of Mr. Peter Stephens of Dublin, Ohio as its new Executive Director.

As most ACBS members know, the organization has been on a search for an Executive Director, capable of taking the organization to the next level, since mid 2012. It has been felt that the creation and fulfillment of this new position was critical to the long term growth of the organization and, to accomplish this, a Search Committee was established. Through the work of that committee, over 25 applicants were carefully considered and, finally, three finalists were selected who were then reviewed by the ACBS Board at the Tavares, Florida quarterly meeting. Peter Stephens was selected by the ACBS Executive Board from the final three.

Peter, originally from upstate New York, holds a BA degree from Rollins College and an MBA from Babson College. His last employment, prior to retiring from the corporate world and now joining ACBS, spanned over 20 years with Wendy’s International, Inc. where he was VP, International Finance & Accounting – CFO. While there, he was honored with Wendy’s highest award, the R. David Thomas Award for Outstanding Management. He has also had extensive experience working with non profits and understands their unique requirements. He has been involved with several non profits at the Board level, including the R. E. Olds Transportation Museum, where has provided insight and guidance.

Peter is a long time member of ACBS, Inc and the owner of a 1927 22’ Chris-Craft Cadet. He is also a collector of antique cars and a regular attendee at car and boat shows throughout the Midwest and South. ACBS, Inc. believes he is an accomplished manager, communicator and leader with a proven ability to motivate and lead organizations and teams.

ACBS, Inc. welcomes Peter who will start his new responsibilities on Monday, June 3, 2013.

Dunc Hawkins, President
Teri Hoffman, Vice President
Brian Gagnon, Vice President
Kathy Parker, Secretary
Dick Winn, Treasurer
Jim Mersman, Past President

Congratulations Peter, hope the fit is “Just Right”. Well, I like Wendy’s hamburgers anyway. And in that photo it is fitting that the couple in the second cockpit were new ACBS members from the Toronto Chapter that we were giving a ride during day 2 of the St John’s River cruise.

Unfortunately, I’m having a senior moment and can’t remember their names but he was a Sargeant for Peel District police dept and could spot a gator better than anyone in “Swamp People”. His wife, Pat???, was a graphic design and print layout specialist that does the Classic Boat magazine for the Toronto Chapter. Mark Krzyzanowski of Antique Boat America can help out with the name as he was a friend of theirs, I think.

Thanks Kathy, we really enjoyed having them aboard and look forward to running into them at the Gravenhurst show.

Well I guess we all know the fallout from this. Goodbye Chicken-on-a-Stick at gatherings. Hello chili with cheese. Sorry Matt. Oh, do you want fries with that?

My condolences to Peter…I mean congratulations to Peter and to the ACBS!

Does he have to move to Clayton before winter?

O-H-I-O! Is he a buckeye? That’s what I want to know! Welcome aboard Peter. Best of luck.

Congrats to Peter, and well deserved. I had the pleasure of meeting him and hearing his presentation to the board in Tavares. His passion for our hobby and business experience do indeed make him the right person for taking the ACBS to the next level. Not an easy task for any organization, but I’m confident he’s up to the job. The future is bright!

    Job well done selection committee.

This is an important transition point for ACBS, and we wish Peter well. Sounds like an exceptionally well-qualified person. When an organization gets to a certain size and set of activities, it really needs full time paid management. Thanks to Dick Werner and the others who advocated for this position, and thanks to all of those who spent countless hours volunteering their time over the years so that the society could to get to this level.

Welcome Peter. Let me know if you want to come to the show in Hessel (this year, it’s August 10). I’ll gladly take you, and any guests you bring, for a spin through the Islands. So no need to BYOBoat. Paul Harrison can give you my contact info.

Well, Peter, I remember the day, I signed on to manage the Chris Craft Antique Boat Club for six months. 25 years later we found a successor…I hope you have as much fun managing ACBS and I did the CCABC.

I also remember the day that I was asked to draft a charter for the new Sunnyland chapter which we dutifly mailed to New York with the requisite signatures and money and we got a rejection notice saying Florida would never be able to sustain and ACBS chapter. The next year we took the charter to the annal meeting at Tahoe where it was reluctantly accepted. the rest is history.

Hopefully your career with ACBS will result in as many pleasant memories.

Thanks Kathy – It looked like Patrice & Russ were enjoying themselves on the cruise… They were certainly in good company with Bob & Victor, and on a fine looking Chris-Craft as well.

We all had a great (warm / snow-free) day on the water.

If only I could have got Bob Johnson to back off on the throttle a little more so Patrice could have taken a few more shots. They were great passengers. She/we did get a lot of gator shots but Bob loves to put the hammer down.

Welcome aboard, Peter. I look forward to meeting you at Lake Hopotcong in June. Hagerty and ACBS have had a strong relationship for 20+ years and looking forward to another 20 with you at the helm! Congrats!!

  11. John Baas

Peter, welcome to the ACBS. Can you tell us exactly what the “next level” is?

  12. Chad

    Congrats Peter!

Can you get us a ACBS club discount on Wendy’s frosties?

Was there any “enlightenment” as to what the next level consists of? Curious and I suppose there will be a plan/strategy forthcoming that will be vetted by??? directors? board? membership? buy in by the chapters?

  14. Allen

Wow, I didnt know this job was going to pay a 6 figure income ? Thought most of the Board are retirees with great incomes and the club thing is a hobby…..no need to move to Clayton….dont think all of that was clear in the search info or more might have applied……seems like were are getting like Washington with big salaries and bennies for people who can well afford to donate their time……Oh well, thats life. It’s all good I suppose……
