Kinda live-ish we just got in these great photos of the Michigan Chapter of the ACBS’s Annual show this year in St Clair. This is the normal Algonac show that we have reported on in the past, but the water levels have been so low, that they decided to move the show. the best part of this years story is…. No captions were sent in, so we all know what that means. WE GET TOT MAKE THEM UP! Woohooo! All the photos are by Tom Sherry.. Thanks Tom!

Someone won a drawing, or was it a drawing to win a drawing, or was it the actual thing that the drawing represents that she won? Whatever it is, she sure won the heck out of it!

And here is a video and a story of the event done by the Times Herold. Be careful watching the video, the reporter has super powers, he actually can put you to sleep while looking at a rare Cobra, thanks god for Pete Beauregard. Pete brings some life to it. We did not want to show it here, fall asleep on the Times Herold site!

And I thought you were going to get crazy with the captions! Thanks for the nice follow up Matt. See you at the show next year.

  2. Troy

    Great pictures!

Did you get any more shots of all the Cruisers that were there?

Love the header with all the Cruisers!

How did that Whaler get in there? Oh yea right, our Leader likes ’em. Watched the video. Carl and Pete, ya need to smile more! Now off to a 12 hour work day, sigh. Thanks for the pics today it helps.

Thanks for the coverage Matt. We had one of the best cruiser turnouts ever. Rick’s Black Futura is probably the nicest one left one the planet! It was a fantastic weekend, wish you could of been here, there were even 2 whalers. We had a guy show up from Ottawa, Ca with a fully enclosed trailer pulled by a full size tractor. When he came across the border, all the customs agents had to come out to see the beautiful 30′ Hackercraft nestled inside. He said it was a circus.

All right hope I made it small enough to load, or I’m done today

Thanks for including the picture of Jennifer sitting proudly atop her newly restored racing hydro Stiletto, and the tail section of my vintage White Lightning in the background. We have been invited to attend this show for many years now to display some of our fleet of raceboats, all wood of course. We discuss past and current inboard racing adventures primarily with, I believe, families with kids, vintage folk who remember the races in Algonac, St. Clair, and Detroit, and the gearhead mechanical folk who are interested in how we make these boats fly over the water at 80, 90, or 100 mph. We let people (kids and sometimes their parents) climb into the cockpit of these boats and have their picture taken. Our motto is look and touch and experience what you see. Thanks to Greg. L. for thinking of us and our beloved aspect of this sport each year.

Hi Gimpy, here! Yea while the News paper reporter was a nice old guy, he sure was old school. While sitting in our Lyman, during our interview, he was writing down every word we said, long hand, on his old fashion steno pad size paper. Reminded me of watching the T.V. Show Dragnet, “just the facts, mam”.
But he was truly interested in what we had to say, and asked the right questions.
Thanks to all of our “Friends” in the Michigan Chapter for making a painful weekend seem much better, due to all their kind words, and all the help, every time I turned around.
A special thanks to my good friend Greg Lewandowski, for being part of our crew and helping launch and retrieve our boat back on the trailer.
Update on my broken ankle, Mondays X-Rays showed another broken bone we did not see at first. So it kills me to have to do this, but Ronnie and I will not be able to make the big Gravenhurst Show over the forth of July weekend. The Doctor said if I stay off the ankle NOW, I should be good to go for all the Classic Boating Events in August and September.
In the meantime, we will lay low here in our home port of Spring Lake/Grand Haven, MI. and do some local cruzin…

Dennis, Sorry you didn’t make it to Old Club. We were going to hoist you up in a Bosun’s Chair from one of those big Vikings on millionaires row. It was really good to see you, bum ankle and all. Stay home, stay on the hard, and get better.

  9. Alex

    Theres live. There’s live-ish. There’s today’s “kinda live-ish.” And there’s kinda-sorta-livish.

    Translation:

    I’m here now.
    I was just here.
I was here not too long ago.
I was here in a former life.

Wish the photos were larger so as to see them beautiful boats up closer in this digital world I visit! lol
