“Lady of the Lake” is the popular (and spacious) Whitefish Lodge ride boat.

It was smiles all around on Friday evening as classic boaters arrive back to the Whitefish Lodge docks from the evening cruise, to kick off the second annual WWW II – Whitefish Woody Weekend on Whitefish Lake, Montana.

This year over 30 wooden boats from around the Pacific Northwest converge on beautiful Whitefish Lake, in north western Montana for a fun weekend of classic boating. The weather forecast is perfect all weekend with clear, sunny skies and temperatures in the high 80’s and low 90’s.

The second annual WWW II gathering is sponsored by the Big Sky Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society and is hosted by the spectacular Lodge at Whitefish Lake, a perfect venue for a classic boating weekend. Fellow Woody Boaters and Whitefish, Montana residents Tim & Deb Salt, working together with the Big Sky Chapter ACBS have worked hard to make this event a success again this year.

After what seemed like a long winter for many of us, the scent of fresh varnish and big V-8 engines burbling on an 80 degree summer evening is like a big gulp of Red Bull – It “Gives You Wings”… (Hey – Give me a break, as I write this it’s 3:06 AM local time and I have to be back at the lodge in 4 hours to hopefully shoot some boats on the lake in the crisp morning sun)

WWWII - 5
The unique Stan Craft marque is legendary in these parts, and it’s exciting see both the classic Stan Craft designs from back in the day, as well as some modern Stan Craft contemporary designs here this weekend.

WWWII - 7
Gerry & Donna Gilbreath from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho have two boats here this weekend, this is the multi-award winning contemporary “Jefe” – a spectacular CDA Custom 34′ with some serious horsepower. Gerry would have it no other way…

WWWII - 8
And it’s always great to see a Grand Craft out on the water.

I think Woody Boater should start another campaign to make vintage Captains Caps mandatory for classic boating events… If we could only find a new supplier since the demise of the Lancaster brand.

WWWII - 13
And you just can’t have a fun classic boating weekend without the fun-loving Century guys… It’s just not the same – Right Tommy?

WWWII - 14
Stay tuned for another Live-ish report from the second annual WWW II in the amazing alpine setting of Whitefish, Montana.

Here’s the schedule for the weekend, if you are in the area – stop by and smell the varnish.

What are the specs on Lady of the Lake? If I had that many passengers in Panther they better all be wearing bathing suits because a 5 gal bucket wouldn’t do it. Looks like a great boating event.

  2. John Rothert

Yeah, what are the specs on that boat? looks huge?
    Great work Texx.
    John in Va.

Don’t have the specs but I am pretty sure Lady of the Lake is a Windsor Craft of fairly recent vintage. The company operated up to about 2009, and was part of Genmar holdings liquidation. The rights and inventory for Windsor Craft were apparently sold to J & D Acquisitions, LLC. but based on the lack of info or a corporate web site one must assume that J & D terminated the brand and that Windsor Craft are no longer being produced

I am standing beside Lady of the Lake right now. Yes, it’s a 1990 Windsor Craft 31 ft Classic (the model name).

The Captain said its legal capacity is 12 passengers plus Captain & Hostess for a total capacity of 14.

Thanks, Texx, for covering this show. Tim and Debbie are really nice people and should be thanked for taking the laboring oar for this show. Perhaps a photo of them in their great boat would be a nice recognition?

  4. Greg Lewandowski

I didn’t know they had lakes in Montana, but it sure looks like a great show. I especially like all of the on water events on the schedule. I would also like to know more about Lady of the Lake. What a cool monster.

Greg, nearby Flathead lake is about the largest lake in the US after the great lakes. If you come to the acbs show in coeur d’ alene in September, it would be a good excuse to check out montana while you are at it. I know you would enjoy it.

I count at least 15 that I can see on LotL. That would sure make your share of the fuel bill cheaper on a “chip in”. But, its got to have twins and some serious power to push that load around.

  7. WoodyGal

This looks like a fun show! Montana is a beautiful state!

  8. Ol'Salt

LOL is a 31 foot 1990 Windsor Craft Classic. It is powered by twin 270 HP Volvo engines and owned by our hosts at the Lodge at Whitefish Lake, Brian and Fabienne Averill.

  9. Randy Rush Captain Grumpy

No boat fun for me today. So my 96 Larson 250 hp v8 , 4000 lbs, died on the lake . I had to retreave it with my 63 Carver 130hp 4cyl, never been apart. Now thats something different!

    • Alex

BUT, at least you were boating. And that makes you a lucky guy, Randy.

The LOL is missing her swim platform. The brackets are still there though.
