Stay awake.

Just try an stay awake on board.

I was out on our beloved 1960 Chris Craft the other day while other plastic tubs were all running around the river. It dawned on me how board these people must be out there on there boring craft. The even sadder thing is that they are boring new, but when they get older they actually suck the joy out of were ever they sit and use up valuable air space for the water to evaporate. Yes, watching water evaporate is more fun than looking at a 1985 anything. It’s like they all were designed by the same guy that designed the K car. Wait, the K car at least evoked some emotion.

Hi, my name is Rick and besides my woody I also have a boring boat (hanging my head in shame). Even attractive nubile you ladies have trouble staying awake on it.

    College ? Collage ?

Were you in a piece of art or attending a rather large school ???

I am going to guess ‘college’ since you spelled ‘keg’ correctly and thus have your priorities straight !

And in that shot of Alex and son – jezuz – who stood on the aft area while the boat was in motion to snap that photo!!!???

    • Alex

Matt took it. No worries — not as dangerous as looks. Boat rides very smoothly. And better Salty was sawing logs than sawing at the boat. One never knows with a 6 year old…

And just for kicks, I Googled “boring boat images” and this was the first image.

What is it with impoverished nations overloading boats? Is there really not another boat just outside of the photo that could take on a few of these ‘extra’ passengers ???

Ha Ha funny article..I guess when I discovered the mahogany thing 15 years ago (after having shower pan boats) I never realized that yes woodies ARE more fun. The smell of off gasing varnish, the slightly moldy bilge smell, the smooth ride, the sound of a vintage Flathead motor, and of course all of the friendly folks at the gas pumps who had an Uncle with the same exact boat!…yes it IS more fun, i just hate being called a wood boat snob…:( See ya out there..”Bone Daddy”

That header today looks out of place , feels more like the redneck Riviera to me.

  6. Randy

I’ll bet that if Texx saw something like the ‘header boat’ on a trailer in a parking lot after a long Harley day on the road he would think he was in heaven! Might have a difficult time getting him to move on the next morning.

This little plastic gem is a Century (’85?) we put a rebuilt motor in for a customer due to previous owner not winterizing. On the test ride with my grandson, Alex, faking a nap.

How gauche, they couldn’t get the recliners to match the sofa in the header? Puleeze

  9. Matt

Yes, I felt that the recliners evoked an image of lazyness and rest. To be honest. I would park my fat ass in one of those in a new york minute. A bag of chips and beer and would have a fantastic day of it.

I am kinda partial to the Bayliner in the header. Given it’s age, it is impressive that it still floats come to think of it!!! Even more impressive is the person that would love that boat that long………

Just came across this….it’s an ad that my good friend and Brass Bell editor “Bill Baldwin” put together when we organized the RDC Chapter of the ACBS…..

  12. Troy

OK I am having trouble this week posting pix, but I will try again.
This is my boring (yes it’s a 1985) boat.
That is it may be boring until you fill it with Bikinies and skim across the water at about 50.

  13. brian t

Just came across this at a local antique and trading post – anyone need a wood boat on a Lionel train flat bed for their collection ??

  14. jim g

My sister and her son and nephew. We left the dock with both kids screaming their heads off 10 minutes later back at the dock and their asleep.

  15. Capt. Mark

Prior to plastic and fiberglass, there was boring aluminum. Here is our family boating with neighbors in MN in our brand new 1968 19′ Lund.

  16. Tobias Sullivan

My vote would have to go to Steve Jobs’ 256′ yacht Venus. Hard to know how such an icon of American product design could assemble a team that would lay such an egg but this thing is fugly both coming and going. At a reported $140 million dollars, that’s over half a million per foot – I don’t think anything else afloat can touch those kind of homely per inch kind of ratios. Whoofy Boater!

  17. Rick

My wife would not even let me look at a local triple for sale so today at a boat show I bought a much bigger boring boat than the one I currently have. She should have let me buy the triple, much cheaper!
