Next weekend here in Virginia there are two shows on the exact same date. September 12,2015. One in our home town of Reedville and the other on Smith Mountain Lake. Now, we wish of course we could do both. But it’s a 4 hour drive, and of course the drive to the Reedville show is by boat and takes about 3 minutes. With that said though, the Smith Mountain Lake Gang is so great and such a warm welcoming group that its worth it.
The Reedville show is in a town that is rich in history and Smith Mountain Lake has some amazing mountains and the show is at a very easy setting to stay at. Smith Mountain Lake is fresh water, Reedville is brackish. Both will be loaded with friends… And most of all we want to support both places. And now a brief musical number to set the mood!
So you decide if you live around both areas. The Reedville show is a very small event but the entire town is part of it, Smith Mountain Lake has some amazing boats and a much larger event.
Here is the official press release from The Smith Mountain Lake Gang with many details and official talk.
25th Annual Antique and Classic Boat Festival and Show Sept 12th Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia. The 25th Annual Antique and Classic Boat Show and Festival, a major Eastern U.S. gathering of antique motorboats, will take place between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2015, at Mariners Landing Resort and Conference Center on Smith Mountain Lake.
The public is cordially invited to this fun family oriented event. It includes lots of beautiful antique boats in the water and on-shore displays of early boating and nautical artifacts. There will be on-water boat demonstrations, good food and a variety of craft collectible vendors. This year’s show will again feature a Youth Judging Event for children. There will also be a display of Antique Cars for all to see.
A new and expanded show brochure profiling many events that will be presented during the show will be handed out at the show’s entry gate.
The 25th Annual Boat Show Program is dedicated to longtime Chapter member John Schaible, who passed away on January 5th, 2015. Those attending the show will be given a “People’s Choice” ballot to vote for their favorite boat during their visit to the show. This is the 11th year that the show is being held at Mariners Landing Resort. The antique and classic boat enthusiasts that attend from all over the East Coast represent the cream of antique boat collectors and many of the antique and classic boats they bring to the show are priceless examples of boating history. This year in addition to the boat show on September 12th there will be a cruise on the Blackwater section of the lake September 13th and the Roanoke River area September 14th. Those joining this event in addition to receiving a tour of the lake will also tour the home/shops of several chapter members during the cruise.
The boat show is sponsored by the Smith Mountain Lake Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society, which has more than 8,000 members throughout the world. Approximately half of the 70 members of the local Chapter live on or near Smith Mountain Lake. Proceeds from this year’s show go to local Smith Mountain Lake Charities and are made possible by the many businesses that sponsor the show.
Here is the press Release from Reedville.
Please come have some fun!
OK I made that up, there is no press release. But we will be there and look forward to anyone that wants to come hang out. Friday night will be some sort of something if you are in town. Not sure what? maybe nothing. The Bay Motel is under new ownership and I hear is nice now. There is also the Gables which is in town. And Ma Margrets house is very nice according to previous visitors. There are several nice places to eat in Reedville, Tommys, and the Crazy Crab. And get some Ice Cream at Chitterchats. Its a very small town and a very intimate event, which is code for small. If you like fishing on the Chesapeake Bay, the museum is a nice place with some cool Bay style boats including a Skipjack and Byboat.
The truth is if you live near the state of Virginia either show will make a nice part of your weekend. This is considered to be the best time of year to go boating in the Mid Atlantic region.
