From Kent O. Smith Jr on Lake George several years ago

As I walked away from my love last weekend, I realized that she was now not going to be my companion for a while. Going on afternoon cruises, escaping the pressures of a day to day job. So I turned around and just snapped these shots of her all covered up and ready to ride out a couple months before we start cleaning her up and prepping for Lake Dora.

I need to fix that jack

I will be honest, its kinda nice, since I always want to go boating first, and so many other things, need to get done. Working on your Woody Boat can be sometimes more fun that running around in it. But for now and today, we celebrate the moment of beautiful slumber. Share your sleeping beauty shots today! I know you have them.

Sea-J has been tucked in for about a month now… I just have to visit her one more time (now the other boats are packed in)before the white blanket comes. Lots planned for the spring so, here’s to an early start in 2016 🙂

That could very well be the first sailboat on WoodyBoater. Never seen one here before.

No matter. Like Captain James T. Kirk, we’re attracted to everything!

While they are technically not sleeping the winter away, here are my girls in my new shop. The Lyman has some small projects scheduled for the winter and the Chris will begin a complete restoration. Working on them is fun too.

The Elgin kit boat rebuild project is still in the garage. Need to find time to get back on that and finish that one up. The Broadwater is still hibernating. Maybe 2016 it can come out and play. Too many boats, chores and projects, too little play time. Sigh…

Here is southeastern Wisconsin, the forecast for Friday and Saturday is snow. When it blows and snows — my shop (set way back from the road on a nice little twisty drive) becomes inaccessible. At least if you don’t have a big hunky 4WD – which I do not. So my full steam ahead-let’s get ‘er planked this winter mode may be heading for a big stop in the next 48 hours. Blahhhhhh….humbug!

Einter is a word I am not familiar with. Is that code for winter on the “East” Coast?

good timing, I just brought back the Coronado from the shop where I got some custom goodies installed to make my life easier. She is now tucked away in our side garage for the winter.
The little Lake N Sea is sitting in a nice heated building, back at the marina which we owned for 10 years.

Laminated up the port chine log last Friday and the starboard one Monday. Should have the bottom on by first of the year but y’all know retirement schedules.

I purchased a used trailer and modified it to fit my needs but in doing so I forgot one very important detail, would it fit through my shop door and as luck would have it it didn’t. So, it spent a short while under the carport, after a few modifications it is now safely stored in the shop. 😀

Sweet Mahogany is tucked in for winter and I have left her with a great bottle of Bourbon to keep her warm during the cold winter nights 🙂

The best place for a boat is a boathouse. In the Spring, I just hook up the battery, close the water chocks and back it out on the track system. I’ve also been known to walk down during the winter to have a pint with her. I call it a “mouse check.”

Thanks for the theme – I am having terrible withdrawals and now you have reminded me of that horrible day a few weeks back when everything was tucked away into the boathouse. I have been apologizing to my family for being such a grump that entire weekend ever since. It is always one of the worst weekends of the year.

Good news is that Spring is closer today than it was yesterday. Happy skiiing everyone.
