OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERADown a long country road at the end of the driveway lies an absolute Woody Boater paradise and a fantastic guy welcoming you. Funny thing about Michigan, no matter how cold it is up there, and it gets cold, it could quite possibly be the warmest place on earth. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWe have had some wonderful talks with Dave who by the way is a long time Woody Boater but to be honest, and I am embarrassed for not knowing Northwood Boatworks. It’s like not knowing about one of the cool old family restaurants in town that everyone else knows about. The good news is that we do now. And better yet, Dave has stuff, cool stuff and a passion for doing things right. Really right. As Dave says, “I reproduce the stuff no one does, Al Schinnerer of California Classic Boats reproduces some amazing things, and I reproduce the stuff he doesn’t.” Guys like Dave and Al are a huge part of the foundation of this culture.

Lots of fuel sticks, these are printed with a specail two stage ink that is not effected by fuel. These are all hand made and Dave has to get them printed witch is a feat unto its self. The hours spent on reproducing these parts is truly a work of love. If you have a Chris Craft you need a stick!

“HI MATT,  WHEN I REPLICATE SOMETHING I GO ALL THE WAY. IF ITS WORTH DOING THEN IT WORTH DOING RIGHT. I DO NOT MAKE HALF REPLICAS, SO EVERYTHING ON THE STICKS ARE RECREATED AS THEY WERE.

Now that it I know where to get on the stick I guess I better get over and measure the tank.

    Nice work Dave!

After your story on fuel sticks last week, I called Dave to place an order. We had a great conversation, and found out we have several mutual friends in the Michigan chapter. When Dave has my sticks ready, I am planning a road trip to Torch Lake to visit more with him at his shop. This story has me even more excited to see his shop!

I literally stumbled on to Dave’s property one day visiting customers up in that area a few years back. I saw a couple of small directional signs (very small) that kinda of lead me to his driveway. His shop is way back from the road, so you got to be looking for this place to get there. BUT when you arrive, it is like pulling up into the 1950’s or 1960’s. Dave was very kind and eager to stop working on what he was doing and just talk boats. Todays pictures take me back to that day, and reminds me to revisit Dave this Summer to have a cup of coffee, and sniff the varnish. Thanks for todays trip to the Michigan North Country

I suspect someone can save me a cold trip to uncover my boat in the back of the storage building. 17′, 1949 Chris Craft Deluxe Runabout? Tank size?
