Looks like a huge condenser to me!

After a month a rain, breaking records in Virginia I might add, not to mention the entire “Condenser issue”. Friday as a throng of family members are all here to go Woody Boating, the lift stops working. In what looks to me like a huge condenser, it just moaned and groaned. Really? Let me say that there is possibly nothing more frustrating than knowing the boat is ready, cleaned up and running like a 150hp sewing machine, and your lift motor is shot. And its 2pm on a huge Friday weekend. This area shuts down and guys that sell motors aint hang’n around on the weekend. That’s for sure. I ran to the phone and called around and shockingly 1 hr away were two motors. SCREEECH, tires burning and a melting credit card in hand I race to East Coast Boat lifts in Urbana. BAM, all set, and race back. Install the new motor, yes I buy two, cause this aint gonna happen again. I got two condensers, I am get the concept. All hooked up, drop tools in the drink, and..turn the switch..

New 3/4 motor, belt etc

Moan, SAME ISSUE. WTF? Its the switch. AHHHHHHHH it’s 4:45.. I call my real trusty guy Ronnie Shackleford, who was out working earlier and he is back at the office at Wicomico Marine Construction, Ronnie answers the phone. At 5PM, who does that? He happens to have a switch and I am there is 15 minutes. He saved the weekend.

All this happened in a blistering two hr period. FIXED by 6 PM and the “Trusty W” just purred along on here Sunset Cruise. She is doing full throttle now and dammmmmmmm it all just makes condenser and lift motor hell go away like the wind blowing through whats left of my now grey hair!

    There is nothing like the presence of water to make $h!t break. Just be glad you can replace this stuff yourself. Getting parts is hard, getting a good electrician to show up Friday evening would have been near impossible.

    This is an internationally known fact. In South Korea they have a whole song about Murphy’s Law (I learned about that fact the hardway).

    What a bummer, but you prevailed and got Wecathum in the water. This old engineer thinks that gear and pinion could use a little silicon grease. No use straining that new motor more than needed! Have a great weekend.

    How many new drive belts did you get? Love the “Heafty Hoist” name stamped on the gear. Are they still in business?

    That’s kinda like replacing your points, plugs, wires, only to discover that it was the stupid condenser. Save that old motor. It’s got great patina.

    ….and then there’s boat trailers and boat trailer wiring harnesses. Don’t get me started on that.

      Yeah, who is the idiot who thought it was a good idea to save a few buck worth of copper and not run a ground line as standard part of the harness? Corrosion should never be an issue on a boat trailer right?

        And why not sheath trailer harness wiring like an outdoor extension cord, modularize it with weather proof plugs and standardized connections to plug into light fixtures at the tail light and at midship for clearance lights, its not rocket science.

    Next time, give the pulley a spin first. I have the exact same lift motors. The condenser is just the starter. As you discovered. It was not the condenseR or motor.
