Tweaking the Carb

Yesterday we spend another full day, under, in and over the Barrel Back Barn Find.  Patching small areas on the bottom, making a battery box, new plugs, wires, Carb rebuild, fuel tank installed, windsheild installed with one wrong bracket.

Windsheild on, cleaning up and inspecting for small cracks. That Blue tape is were the real water line needs to be. Up on the bow is the correct blue. We will not be painting her for the shows this fall. That’s for winter!

Clean and ready! To sink?

Eric Zelman under a suspect area patching. Eric is very organized and does things right.

Seats cleaned and disinfected. Near the end of the day and the boatress and her friends were on the back deck, we crossed our fingers and installed the carb, poured in some new fuel in her new Rayco gas tank, being pumped by her new Van Ness fuel pump. And well… Cough cough, Que the crickets… well, lets share the feeling..Here.

No one is more shocked than we are. Dang! That was fast and smoooooth! Shockingly smooth. Maybe its the Rotella 40 wgt? So we adjusted a couple things and vroom..

Wow again. She needs a new Water pump though, but the good news is that we are that much closer to her big water test on ..in? Smith Mountain Lake. Its a BYO5GB event! OK, that’s bring your own 5 gallon bucket.. Do I have to explain everything. Gaw!

And yes the storm hit us with lots of wind and a very high tide! Yikes. I will be replacing dock boards today!

Congratulations. That first fire is something that only a WoodyBoater that has done it can appreciate. Water pump does need some help. That pipe sounded great but looked pretty dry!

It can’t be that easy! I would be very concerned that Mr. Murphey is lurking.

Must be having problems today. I’ve tried several times to post and it’s not showing up.

That’s Great!! Love watching you guys bring back to life. Hope you got lots more video to share of your work! It sounds like you need a new Bendix in that starter. This one’s got a tired spring! I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you all!

Carb is on the right way. It may not be the correct carb to the boat though as the Sherwood water pump is not original either. But hey neither is the fiberglass!

Hope the hurricane treated you lightly and only few boards missing from the dock. 70,000 still without power in Tallahassee, mostly due to fallen oak trees on the lines. Strangely we here at the coast slightly on the west edge of the storm escaped virtually unscathed.

I drive around with knee-jerk reaction to open barns and bows sticking out of the bushes. This boat was truly an incredible find and I would not be able to sleep if I was in Yall ‘s position. I have followed the thread on FB since your first post and am quite happy for your success!!! Someday I hope to see it in person!!!

Fantastic! Congratulations on the progress so far – looking forward to seeing the running shots on the water and the smiles on your faces!

Same feeling as Dr. Fronk-en-steen must have felt when his ‘creation’ came to life — congrats!!!!!!
