She Is Ready For Smith Mountain Lake – September 9th. Bring An Air Freshener!
Outta the barn, thats Termite Terror in the barn in her place. Nature deplores a vacuum!
It’s been touch and go to see if we could make it to the big Smith Mountain Lake Show this Friday and Saturday. It’s still touchy regarding Friday, but Saturday for sure. We are going to need to rebuild her water pump this week late once the kit gets here from Van Ness and a couple little trailer issues.

She runs like a champ and from working on her bottom, seems to be OK.. We think. We had some water in her yesterday and it did leak in an area that we hopefully have fixed. There is not real swelling here on this one since she is encased in Fiberglass. So its fingers crossed. This is real. We have not and will not have water tested her in any way. So on Saturday at the lake at the ramp. It will be live, and sink or well float, and even then who knows what could happen. We tightened the rudder box. The shaft hose is still from the barn, so that is suspect as all get out.
New rubber flooring, the 70’s rubber was part of the stinkyness and had to go. Yikes, that was a mess. Maybe if she sits outside for a while!
Our plan is to see if she starts and floats. Maybe one run and back on land. Despite all the cleaning, she still stinks of rat turds. So it wont be hard to find. Eric Zelman laughed when once he started working on her, understood why we were calling her Stinky.

We hope you all will make it to say Hi and see the Barn Find, and oh yeah Miss America IX will be there. This is gonna be a fun show, and then next week she goes to the Reedville show the next week, and then we start doing more cosmetic work. These two shows will be your’e one chance to see her in a Barn Find State in person.

Go to a pet store and buy a gallon of Nature’s Miracle advanced formula. Or three. Apply liberally to all surfaces. Rinse, repeat as necessary.
That sounds like a great idea. I was gong to suggest open bowls of vinegar placed fore, aft, and cover boat with tarp. We put this is rental houses that had smoking tenants and it “de smoked” each room…a miracle. We did get rid of soft goods in the room (drapes, carpet, etc).
“Floater”
Having a good chuckle at Matt’s expense on the comments. I’ve never hauled a boat strapped down over the deck. Do you think that little fender cleat will hold that deck strap? Those screws are pretty small, anyway I know you’re trying to keep the cockpit deck cover on, I assume. I’ve always worried about abrasion. Even on unrestored boats I’ve used old computer mouse pads (speaking of rodent references) for padding straps to prevent damage. They are basically wetsuit material. Happy trails. Do you have a spare tire? spare bearing/hub?
Normaly I always strap around the shaft. but in this case its small and is holding down the hatch, and the finish is well… Finished. Yes we have a spare, and the berrings are redone. But its suspect. I hate old axles. We may change the trailer once at Jimmys for the long trip. Around here the trailer is great. And a perfect fit
I see your point being a lighter boat a strap down is appropriate to keep her from bouncing or sliding off the trailer sideways especially when cornering. I could write a book on trailering but the chapters keep coming.
Put sheets of fabric softener (Bounce/Bounty) in the bilge. Will eliminate odor and it does repel vermin….varmits too.
