That smile is fake!
Its sweater weather! A couple years ago I found not one, but two of these knitted sweaters. For the life of me I am not sure why? My son has one and we have another here. Why? I still don;t know. But then the other day on ebay, there it was. The pattern!

Mary Maxim Motor Boat Pattern

For real!
Oh, that’s what those darn things are. Just to show you that folks back in the day enjoyed boating to the point that you could sucker your bride, Mom, or grandma to stitch you a sweater, or I suppose these were gifts stitched in secret until Christmas. Either way, I am here to tell you, that despite the fact that they fit into the ugly Christmas sweater category. They are hot as hell. But that’s never a problem, because no one will wear it for longer than the milla second it takes to take the photo. I had, maybe 1 minute of photo time. And we were ALONE! Dear god, what would the dogs think?

Regardless, I thought that it might be cool to show you it all. Why? I don’t know that either. Maybe its winter and we have covered just about every nook and cranny of the classic boat universe. Or not? I don’t know that either.

Hello ladies!

Nice sweater. Now please move so I can watch the Steelers on your TV.

OK so now it is officially January!
On a good note, I received an e-mail from Guy Marvin III this morning with registration forms for the St. Johns River Cruise.
Lucky Duck Guy is headed to the Bahamas by boat tomorrow, maybe he can do some “Liveish” reporting so we don’t have to see sweaters, toilet seats, and zipper counts.

Troy,
If he needs a vacation like that before running the trip what do you think he does after?

There’s a line in one of my favorite movies, “This is Spinal Tap”, that guided me and my entire creative department at the Fallon ad agency I spent most of my career at: “There’s a fine line between clever and stupid.”
I think you could adapt that line to be: “There’s a fine line between dorky and cool.” That sweater is Cool with a capital “C”.

Is that an original sweater or restored? Can you still get the original yarn? If you make one today, how is it judged? What kind of zipper does it have? Snaps? So many questions!
Matt
Ha! so dam true. This one though for my famuly is on the razors edge. Then again, they put me in the Dork camp. So? I thought it was cool and bought two of them! And the dam pattern! I see a blanket????

My mom used to knit this type of sweaters. She put rainbow trout, travel trailers and all sorts of stuff on them. She figured out how to take graph paper and make custom designs. She did not make this one, dad was more of a fisherman.

I can just see it now, a new business, let us put an image of your boat on a custom knit sweater. Only $$$$.

How about knitting a boat cover or an engine box cozy. I think the sweater is definitely kewl, maybe its just the way the Boatress is showing it off, cause I like it. But what’s next, woody applique’s on poodle skirts and bobbi sox with embroidered burgees???
Rob
Correct zipper?
