I Have PTLDSD Post Traumatic Lake Dora Stress Disorder! Do You?

FLA SUN Karen Sun

Karen out on Lake Harris for an amazing ride and lunch on Sunday! It was all over in just hours. So sad!

Is it just me, or did you want to just turn around and head back to Florida for another week, or 52? Sure the weather was great here in VA, 75 yesterday. But no boat in the water yet, and friends. Lots of friends. Its a funny thing though, if you go back to the show area on Monday, it’s very quiet and not the same either. The Lake Dora show is a place and time thing. When all the pent up need for sunshine and friendship all happens in one magical weekend. And that is intoxicating, and very rough when its over and you realize that all you did was briefly, too briefly trick your brain into thinking its a perfect summer day! And little things around the office are reminders of the wonderful time, and I can’t work. Is it just me? Here are some wonderful memories of the week that I could relive every day!

It doesn’t help that Troy is still there and sending photos every ten minutes.

Not much mentoring any more…just having fun with good people. It was a great event.
After several years of absence my wife even said she enjoyed “kicking tires” one more weekend.

By doing our long version of the Saint Johns River Cruise and several other activities, we put 26 running hours on Nothin’ Fancy from Sunday to Saturday. That included time for all the other things that the festival entails, but “go boating” John Rothert would be proud.

We saw lots of people coming and going and using their boats during the show, and several giving rides. A great way to run a large event and a super job by Sunnyland Chapter.

That cup I was drinking from in Troy’s photo came from a Sunday boat trip on the St. Johns to where it dumps into the ocean. Through Jacksonville and about 20 more miles. Safe Harbor in Mayport. Neat trip and great food. Probably how I brought 6 extra pounds home.

I saw Karen get off the boat several times…mostly to get a meal or a drink.

I only had a brief visit with the Wise family and a short ride on their workboat this trip. They are good people who I would like to spend more time with. I didn’t get enough time with Troy and Sandi, the Harisons, Jim Frechette, Jim Staib, Jimmy and Shannon, Scott and Shannon, Matt and Susie, John and, and, and…. I really is the people in the hobby that make the trip worthwhile.

Tobler thinks I should rent a dog friendly place next year and bring him. He also thinks Jackson should come and stay with us. He thinks the two of them could have a good time raiding the chicken on a stick tent together.

Windshield on continental (noted as not original) would be if originally had a sedan roof that had been removed.

Remember some are still enjoying the sun with the Northbound cruise. Maybe next year I will stay longer and do the North bound trip and take in the float plane festival the weekend after the show.
