Chad Duran sent this in a couple days ago! Off to the lake! Dang, Lily has grown up and look at not so little Cooper!

Well, how was your weekend? The start of summer boating, and a wonderful day to reflect on those that have sacrificed so much. We do remember. It was a busy weekend here at HQ. Lots of boating, as you saw. The Donzi sold in hours and she is already back in Jimmys Barn, all cleaned up and ready for her next adventure.

Woohooo!

We had a total of eight folks at the house. TWO BEDROOM house, and it was great. The Boatress’s Mom, kids down from NYC and other family.

Woody Family Boating!

I am officially ready to go back to work now. Today, share your perfect memory, trust us, sometime around February we are all gonna wanna go back to this story for hope! Thanks again for all the kind words yesterday. you are the fuel that runs this flathead!

The weather in Maine was not as nice as in VA I assume, since I did not see any bikinis, but we were able to get one launched.

    Summer begins!

The smile on a kids face is the pay back for all the sacrifice. Thanks Woody Boater for doing your part.

No launch yet, hopefully next weekend. I did buy two new boats, but they are glass and sail powered, and also still on land.

Mine Memorial Day 2017 will always be with me. It started at midnight because of a 10 hour delay at two locks near Joliet. CalSag at night meant traveling the CalSag at night and reaching Lake MI at midnight and heading out into the darkness and 30 hours without sleep. I even think I saw Troy in the middle of the lake during one of my hallucinations. Finally arrived Grand Haven before noon Monday. No boat rides for a while. I know boring cruiser talk but you all will have to live with it.

May not have been a hallucination, you never know where I may show up.

May even show up “Down Under”.

Saturday was a gorgeous day on Lake Charlevoix so we launched the Fay and Bowen and went for a slow cruise down the “narrows”. Just at the south end one of the steering pulleys pulled out [old cable and pulley system] so we started going in circles. A quick fix using one screw, vice grips and duck tape and were able to continue the very slow cruise. Always something either broken or about to be broken on an old boat! Kudos to all the people [especially the young people] who stopped and asked if we needed a hand.!

We put the boat in for the first time in months due to our drought conditions. We decided to pack a picnic lunch and run the St. John’s with our son and his girlfriend. We ran from Lake Monroe to Astor on Monday with surprisingly little boat traffic in the river. In Astor is a slow speed zone with minimum wake… I guess our idea of minimum wake is different from the FWC officer’s that couldn’t wait to nab us! Several of our long held beliefs were shattered that day…

1). We sort of believed we were immune to stops due to the age of our boat and… well our ages, too!
2). Having the boats numbers on a handheld sign instead of actually on the boat… doesn’t count.
3). Having US Marine Corps stuff all over the boats and us isn’t the “get out of jail card free” we thought it was… No, we didn’t go to jail
4). Changing purses and not checking all the pockets so you don’t leave the registration behind is not good… We did pass the safety check however.

After numerous verbatim quotes of all of the great state of Florida’s regulations, we were ticketed for only the wake infraction and sent on our merry way.

Who gives a 70 year old Marine a citation on Memorial Day? We figure the FWC officer was Air Force and just taking his frustrations for all the “friendly” harassment he had suffered at hands of Marines out on my poor jarhead; guess you can only call a fellow a “bus driver” for so long… the guys in the military will understand!

Still a wonderful day on the water!

Took Dad out for a ride to the Fire Island National Seashore. Gave him a margarita and this was the result. Said he had a great time.

Watched the Higgins boats go ashore in Saving Private Ryan. It is an annual reminder for me every Memorial Day. Thank God and their families for those who gave their lives to pay for our freedom.

Matt, Happy four thousand and one. Always a good story or something to learn everyday which is amazing. Thanks for the videos. And thanks to Suzi for her support.

Water in the San Joaquin was a nippy 63 degrees due to the extra snow melt, but at least it didn’t rain in CA.
