Henry Island – A Short Film By Steve Snider And Chris King Will Brighten Up Your Tuesday!

,

Golden light, Classic boats and beautiful people.

Fellow Woody Boater Steve Snider sent us in this wonderful short film of the perfect weekend spent on his Century Raven, and a fun bonus of his Century running in Seattle. The perfect footage to take your mind off work today, for at least a couple minutes! And remind us all that Woody Boats are for ..get this… BOATING! Take it away Steve!

Ready to go to Henry’s island?

My cousin Chris King is a professional videographer and brings his equipment with him to my family property on Henry Island in the San Juan Islands of Washington State. 5 of us headed up Friday June 30th from Lake Union through the Ballard locks, which just celebrated their 100 years in service. The trip to Roche Harbor takes about 4 hrs averaging 20 knots or so. We spent 8 days on an island off of San Juan Island right across from Roche Harbor to celebrate the 4th of July.

Woohooo!

More friends and guest came up via seaplane or ferry. Fantastic weekend of exploring the waters, searching for whales, ladder golf, nail game and a private fireworks show coordinated by yours truly.
The video isn’t wood boat centric but more for us and our friends.

Stunning Footage of the Pacific Northwest

My boat is a 26′ 1963 Century Raven named BADLANDS that I purchased in upstate New York 7 years ago. My younger brother and I trailered it all the way back to Seattle and then spent 4.5 years restoring it.

Steve’s Century Raven

Cosmetic fixer they said, yeah right! Added a mahogany front deck, modified the windshield, 4.3 EFI V6’s, killer sound system and underwater lights.  Not original but for me a big improvement from the original design.

And as a bonus extra we also have some great footage from a Camera Test of all things. You get to see a very cool Classic Boat in the Seattle area doing its thing.

Great videos! A classic boat restored, modified to the owner’s desires, and then used to make memories. That is what WoodyBoating is all about.

Great video and beautiful boat. With a daughter in advertising I kept looking for product placement. Yes Tuesday is better already.

Great video thanks for sharing with us! What’s the story behind the name on the boat “BadLands”?

On the drive out to New York and back to Seattle we had an ongoing list of potential boat names. On the way back with boat in tow we drove thru the Badlands. My brother pointed out that the red and black landscape of the Badlands matched the boat so we added that name to our list and it stuck.

Been to Roach Harbor, rate the second best boating area behind the Great Lakes! Great job

Steve, the customization that you have done to the boat is amazing! I never envisioned how good the boat could look when I had it (should have kept it, but I am glad to see it is in great hands and being used as it should).

Hey Andy! Buying the boat from you turned out to be the least expensive part of the restoration. 4.5 years, one lost girlfriend and money! I am really happy with the result and glad I didn’t know what I was getting into when I bought it.

Steve’s vision for and the resultant restoration of the boat by Alan Thomle are beautifully shown in these videos – taken in two of our favorite areas. Lake Union “Sleepless in Seattle” touring is a “go to” evening cruise and the San Juans our yearly destination. Heading up for two weeks in early August if all goes well.

Steve and the crew at Henry Island were boating and swimming is salt water, by the way… It’s good for the wood! 🙂

Steve is our current ACBS Pacific Northwest President. It is great to have some younger blood in the club and he is doing a great job. You can see he has the passion! Here is a picture of Steve on the right, Karl Hoffman, and Dick Dow skippering his Red and White for an “on the water ACBS meeting we had with a visit to “Chinooks” restaurant for dinner. We do have fun!
    Way to go Steve!

    Thanks again!

Amazing how much that Raven looks like the ’59 24′ CC Sportsman (formerly “Suzy”). Well done, agree that its refreshing to see young blood enjoying woodyboating life.

So I looked up the Red Weapon 6K. Chris is a brave man using that thing so close to salt water!

Was the second video shot from a drone or another boat?

Not for kids. Not for wives. Not for me either! The closest I would be willing to get the ocean with that camera to would be central Kansas!

The second video was using the Red with a gimbal mount held by Chris on a 14′ Zodiac. With the rough water it was amazing that the footage wasn’t more shaky.

      • m-fine
        m-fine says:

He did a great job of not capturing his own wake or letting you know the zodiac was there at all. I had a feeling it was from a boat but I couldn’t tell for sure.

Chris and the camera did a great job. The images are stunning, so I can see why a pro would pony up for equipment like that. Thanks for sharing.

A couple of weekends ago we were out cruising on our lake in Rabbit and I saw a friend out in his Chris Holiday. I pulled a U and fell in formation behind him. After a moment I saw John reach up from his steering wheel and grab something out of the air. I couldn’t tell what it was. But the next day he emailed me a video his son shot of him grabbing it out of the air and saving the day… his son was shooting the setting sun and caught it at the perfect time, just like his dad.
