Road, Airplane Gondolatrip! Woody Boater Headed To Germany, Austria and Italy Today!!

Lots of winding roads. What could go wrong?

Today we are headed to Europe for a tour of Germany, Austria and Italy’s most beautiful lakes. With 4 days been spent on Lake Como. We look forward to reporting if possible from Europe and hopefully showing our readers the magic of WoodyBoatering liverish from the other side of the pond. Right now we have no real plans on the lakes, just when we are set to be there. So if anyone over there wants to have some fun, we are game and it would be fun to introduce you to the Woody Boater universe. Our towns being visited are Munich Fri-Sat, then a slow drive to Salzburg, ( home of the Sound of music) and then to Verona and some Lake Como time, ending up in Venice.. Italy, not Venice LA, or in that mall in Vegas, the real Venice, the one that is sinking.  We do have a very special place to visit with over 600 boats in one museum the Museo Barca Lariana in Pianello del Lario on Lake Como. Here is a cool video of the museum.

Half the fun about a WoodyBoater road trip is not knowing what we will find. And that’s the plan. No plan. So stay tuned. We do have some normal stories we have been hording so we can stay regular. And at our age, being regular is sometimes what its all about! Woohoo. Any of you all going to be there?

That should be a great trip. I find it impossible not to have a great time when surrounded by the Alps. There is something special about those granite peaks that makes the schnitzel taste even better.

Munich and Salzburg are two of my favorite cities in the world. Try to visit the BMW Museum, BMW Welt and Olympic grounds as they’re all right next to each other. And any beer hall other than the Hofbrau. That’s for tourists only, and you’re no tourist.

WTF? I cannot even paste it in there, or go back and correct it. As soon as you out the b after the f it wants to delete either the f or the r. Only way to do it is with a space.

HA, ya, I keep saying I have to go to Europe to find all the weight I lost. And yes Rabbit, no October fest for me. Its a puke fest. I grew up in Munich for 4 years and love it there. Went back when I worked on BMW and it had changed but the spirit of Bavaria is still there. It oddly feels like home to me. Which is strange, since it aint for sure. Salzburg is the same and we used to hike around there as a kid with my father and its exciting to know I will be doing the same thing with my son. Then Venice and Lake Como are just because I have yet to go, and scared I may not want to come back. HA.

Visit Ereo Mintieri (not sure of spelling) on Lake Como. Ereo is very nice man who loves to show off his Riva restoration shop. Near by is the Grotto Hotel. This hotel is a nice clean place with a way cool wine cellar.

That’s Matteri, dad. Ereo was just at the Tahoe Concours, Matt. Super nice guy and one of the top Riva restorers in Europe. He is into the really old Rivas (1950s). His yard is dug into the rock on the shore of Como. Doesn’t speak English but understands some.

We stayed a short walk from Matteri two summers ago when we went. I knew it was there but couldn’t find. He may understand a little English but his neighbors don’t!

Lake Colombia amazing. I’m supposed to have dinner with GeorgeC this weekend, I’ll see if he’s around when you’re there.

And you have to get some Bigoli in a cup with duck sauce. Google Bigoli Venice. A little take out shop south of the Academy bridge, east side.

Creative note to add Verona to the list, Juliet. You’ll have to find your Montague another time. We are going to Hallstatt from Salzburg, though – that will be more photogenic!

    Matt,

Stay at the Villa D’Este on Como. Suzy will love it!! Take the launch and visit Varenna and Bellagio on the North end, then on to Lago Iseo to Sarnico and Cantiere Riva. from there go to Maranello and take the Ferrari Tour or at least see the Ferrari museum. When you finish the tour have lunch at Cavallino Ramparte just outside the front gate.
