It’s Time Again To Play Our Favorite Game Show. What…Iz…It?

Iz it a turtle shell?

Thanks to fellow Woody Boater Brian Fogerty for sending us in this Wooden boat for a game of Whatizit. now, first lets get all the its a sailboat bitching out of the way. Okay? Okay?

So can we move on? Brian wants to know for a friend.. Ugh hugh… Anyway he wants to know if anyone knows this brand of boat? Looks like a well constructed boiat? . In a turtle shell way. I guess the thing here, is is worth restoring? Yes by the way. Once its done it will be fun and cool as all get out. The hull construction method is bullet proof. Well, not techenically, I mean if you shot a bullet at it, it would not be good. It’s a metaphor.. Do I really need to explain it all?

cool name. Worth restoring just for the name?

It sailed when I put it in the barn!

Is that a chain Link Sail? Ya? That idea wasnt a good one. I mean it never rips? but?

So, anyone of you folks got any ideas? Come on, one of you sailed one of these as a kid? No? Maybe?

Kind of looks like a Molly Brown design to me, but I am not a real expert on sail boats.

After last nights dinner cruise I can actually say that I have seen a
“Dink on a Nun”, and I am not even Catholic.

It looks a lot like a George O’Day dingy. Is it molded plywood? I think they were imported from England. I have one, but it’s in really rough shape. Just a planter now.

If it is hardwood then burn it and put the sheets back on the bed.

After that find something with a motor.

Yep, it’s a Duckling made by Fairey Marine in England. I found a photo on the owners association web site. They were “hot molded”. Similar to cold molding but the boats went into a hot room to cure the glue.

No doubt the same Fairey Marine that built those great boats in the James Bond film, “From Russia with Love”??

I don’t know about the sailboat but I had a wooden salad bowl set that looked a lot like that. You could really make a big salad in that and you’d be healthy and sail at the same time. M.fine could have his bacon crumble on a spinach salad and make like Popeye the sailor man and his dog could lick the bowl. It’s a win win. Okay, I think I must be sleep deprived or is it just depraved. Bring on the spring mix.

See, now we are being creative. I like the salad bowl thing. A true sign of a classic old school diner. Wood salad bowls and a place mat with a bunch of business card ads from local septic companies and bail bonds.

I would rather have the salad bowl than the sailboat. It would easier to store and I would get more use out of it.

Better than a salad bowl…You can take a small boat like that and fill it with ice and beer, raise the sail and have a party with a real nautical flair.

We did that with a little Moth Sailboat we owned called Tennis Bracelet. And yes to get the boat…I had to give her the real thing too.
