Could Going To A Boat Show Save Your Life?

Real humans! Gull Lake.

I just watched a wonderful report on loneliness on CBS Sunday Morning. Turns out that loneliness is an epidemic, and can be more deadly than smoking 15 cigarettes a day. Whats to blame? Social Media. I will say hit struck a nerve for sure, since I suppose here, are part of the problem, and solution. Yes, social media,k things like Woody Boater help find and connect people. But are you really connected? Turns out, not really. In fact, the more time on social media correlates with being more lonely.

Mr Lonely Boater.

With this in mind, it hit me like a ton of bricks. BOAT SHOWS are the one place you can make a human connection. Yes, standing on the dock and talking about your Reed and Prince screws could be a life saver. Never mind that the other guy may die of boredom. You may just find a friend.

Friends for over 10 years!

So, go to a boat show, put down the camera and phone, stop the selfies, and talk, meet, and laugh. And maybe, just maybe, you will find that going to a boat show in person, is more about meeting people, and not about the boats! YOU CAN VISIT THE ACBS CALENDAR PAGE HERE

Lake Dora is a great place to meet real humans!

And if you didn’t get the subtle reminder. LAKE DORA IS JUST A MONTH AWAY!

HAPPY HEADER DAY, just hit Refresh and it will rotate to an older header.

If all that fails get a dog. There’s a reason we are called Man’s best friend. And most dogs, not me, are allowed at Tavares.

Heading to a gathering hosted by one of our boating friends this afternoon. He happens to be in charge of all the aircraft at the Museum of Flight in Seattle and has invited us to the museums restoration facility for a mid-winter tour and pizza-fest. There is some pretty incredible stuff there and as we’ve all been snowed in the past week, I suspect there will be a great turnout… 🙂

Perfect topic for today Matt. Officially retiring in about 3 hours after 34 years in Air Traffic Control and moving up to the Central Coast of Ca. My wife and I will be attending every boat show we can if we’re not too busy golfing, wine tasting, or travelling. Have fun!
