Woohoody Boating – Family Fun!

The Marsden’s ready to have some fun

A huge thanks to Kimberly Marsden for sending in this fun story about using a priceless boat to do what that priceless fun boat was designed to do. Have fun! Take it away Kimberly, today the entire universe of WoodyBoaterville is yours. No, literally. Want it?  One Day all this will be yours!

My favorite part of any boat show is when I get to talk to everyone around about just how often we use our boat.

Lets do this!

BLACK WITCH. Hacker with a Hemi

Blackwitch is certainly not a boat that is stored away from one show to the next. She is used all summer long giving rides galore, but the best is when we go tubing behind her. When we tell that to people who also own wooden boats they don’t believe us and we have to show a photo or two. Even when we are out on the water people do a double take.

Ready?

GO!

Woohooody!

It is rare enough to see a wooden boat and even rarer to see one pulling a tube with two teenagers laughing and screaming behind it. We both love to zig and zag out of the wake, and my uncle swears that Black Witch is the best boat he has ever tubed behind. When we are out there, we are out all day long taking turns bouncing across the water.

Slow ride

Into the evening

Done for the day and ready for another

We all love having another way to enjoy our wooden boat and add another fun piece Black Witch’s legacy.

Here are some shots of BLACK WITCH

The Marsden’s back in the day!- The Marsdens are a true icon family in the culture of classic boating.

BLACK WITCH was also made into an amazing model.

I’ll bet that duck will never come back. Wow, how fast does the model actually go? Planes nicely, too… CQ

Always wonderful to see families USING their boats!

Anyone up for a Continental breakfast?

There are probably half a dozen other woodies on our lake. I bet I run Rabbit more than all the others combined. Use ‘em!

I sure use mine for fishing, skiing, tubing, wake surfing, yes wake surfing. Once the younger generation figures out they can buy a Sea Skiff alot cheaper than a Wake boat, watch the interest in old woodies grow. But my favourite past time is pulling broken down plastic boats.😀

When restoring Miss Dot I even installed extra lateral bracing on the rear lifting eye to make sure it would handle it.

She is the only one that we know of that was built this way. We believe that she was built as a gentleman’s race boat, maybe even an early Gold cup race boat. The gears inside the gear box were Ford model T timing gears.

Question; how do you girls climb out of the water after being dragged all over the lake. I know my kids can hardly get up on the swim platform after I whip them around!

Cool! Another woody being used for tubing. We have been tubing behind 1930 Zoomer since the purchase in 2006. The kids even wanted to tube in mid October to try and win a Last Gasp award back in 2011!

    Syd says:

Getting back on the boat can be fun or interesting. The boat has low sides, so they have to be on the tube, then we hold the tube against the boat so that they can climb back on board. Back when I was younger, a couple of times I got on the boat by putting my foot in the exhaust pipe and grabbing the stern chock and the steering pulley and pulling myself back up onto the stern deck. That hurts the foot. Before you ask, I had the boat anchored out in the water so I could take some pictures while standing in water.

Excellent to see other ‘Woody-families’ using their family heirlooms properly! We are told almost yearly that the 1950 CC U22 delivers the ‘perfect wake to board behind.’ Glad spring is here, c’mon Sum-sum-summatyme!

This is what it is all about. Not trailer queens, user boats! That is what they were made for, FUN!
