Kids These Days!

Oh boy!

I got this wonderful note from Scott Turner from AristoCraft Boats yesterday and it was a wonderful reminder of why we do what we do. The Turners are amazing people and family. Yes, they are not sponsors, but we support them 100%, Gail Turner is a former ACBS President and one of the kindest person I know in the hobby. I wish I could be at the Lake Chatuge Show, its a stunning location, with warm weather and most importantly warm people! Thanks Scott for the wonderful photos and thought. MORE KIDS!

Ahoy!

What an awesome week! I don’t even have to watch Jerry Springer anymore, just go to WoodyBoater.com!!!
Hope all is well with you and the family. Just thought I’d drop you a quick note. As I was going through pictures the other day I kept stopping and looking at how much the kids love the boating culture!

This warms my cold cold heart

Man if we could all enjoy boating as much as they do, we all might be able to learn something. The joy of watching kids drive a boat, and learn about what makes it tick has become the best part of boating to my family. Just the other day, Owen drove us home from dinner in our Nineteen and Jenna and I just sat in the back and enjoyed the ride.

Owen is a great driver!

Its a boat – my kids had more fun with boxes than the things that came in them. Such is life.

That is every kids dream

LOVE THIS

There are so many great opportunities for fellow WoodyBoaters to get involved in introducing kids to this awesome adventure as well. Next week we have our annual cardboard boat race at the Lake Chatuge boat show.

We do a model sailboat building adventure with the scouts and at the kids school. And fishing! Oh man take the kids fishing! Being involved in the kids lives and showing them the ropes of boating makes summer worth it.
Have a great summer and happy boating!
Scott.

Taking it on the road!

Life!

The kids are lucky to be able to grow up in such a loving family! And we are lucky that the Turners share that joy!

Been there, done that, and wish I could do it again. They grow up way to fast. Use every second to enjoy it.

The future!

Okay, he beat me up on the hat. I am a sucker for a good haggle.

Lets go!

Get the kids out there! Summer will be over in the blink of an eye. And remember, its okay to be a kid no matter how old you are in Woodyboaterville. I for one am turning 12 this year according to the Boatress. YOU CAN FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE LAKE CHATUGE SHOW HERE on the Blue Ridge ACBS Page.

Speaking of kids of all ages Mom got a “new to her” Sea Doo last week at 92 years young.

Kids can get involved in all levels also. Here is a shot of Sam from a few years ago.

For a GREAT kids story make sure you get a copy on the most recent Brass Bell and read the article in the Take the Helm section.

I’m amazed at your Mom’s ability, mobility, and stability to ride that Sea Doo, hope she has many happy jet skiing days. And great you can get Sam invovlved to help with the work. I’d be ecstatic to get my 88 year old mother in a boat but don’t think the flexibility is there.

The Sunnyland Chapter (FL) of the ACBS has gained a wonderful following for their youth mentorship program.
SCAMPY is an acronym for “Sunnyland Chapter Apprentice Mentoring Program For Youth”. The program brings chapter mentors and young people together in a controlled environment to build a wood boat at no cost to the student. Donations of boats of all sizes and descriptions, cars, tools, and more fund the program. This program instills an early appreciation for boating as well as developing interpersonal and practical skills which will serve them well far into the future. These young family participants are some of the critical lifeblood of our hobby in future years.

Our boat was a family affair. My son stitched the interior. My daughter did the ceiling boards and the bilge!

Wonderful photos! And a nice story for a Sunday morning. Our son took up the family race car hobby instead. But here his is on our first boat, in 1993.

Kids especially Grandkids are amazing. My Granddaughter Payton now 15, never cared to go out on the boat the last four or five years. She was in that “Whatever…” stage young teenagers go through.
But last year, while out on the Coronado, in a long no wake river, I asked her if she wanted to drive, and to my surprise, she said yes.
I just let her get a feel for the steering, then started to make suggestions on how to watch over her shoulder for other boats, etc. She drove for a couple of miles out into Lake Michigan and I taught her how to plane off, turn and more less have some fun out on the big water.
Now she enjoys going out on both boats and getting her wheel time.
Glad I got to see her come around, while still young enough to enjoy the experiences with me.

Wilson – Glad to help! I cherish the years of relationships, memories, and fun we share with so many in this club! I was also delighted to hear that you and Pat were convincing them to visit the Sunnyland Show in Tavares next year. What a great reunion of so many that gathering always is. The more we all do to promote this community, the more those memories and times shared are carried forward. Hope it is a great summer for all –
