Another Miss America? Live-ish From Bay Harbor.

,

Lots of Miss Americas this weekend

Okay, here’s the deal, I got a bunch of stories from different areas, and my head hurts cause I want to make everyone happy. David Irvine sent in some more fun from Algonac, Bob Kays from Lake Hopatcong  is weeding though the photos. No dock shots. Water Action stuff so it takes some time. So I thought today we would do Bay Harbor, Then Late Late Live-ish Hopatcong and then Back to Algonac for a Very late, kinda after hours Live-ish. And then I think there were about 10 other shows that AHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Miss America VIII Dash

And to add to the confusion? This show ALSO had a Miss America. Oh COME ON! So, here is how that breaks down, At Algonac, Miss America X, and at Lake Hopatcong, Miss America IX, and Bay Harbor, Miss America VIII

Our trusty Reporter, and.. Okay I am goona take a leap here. Its safe to say Daughter, cause if this is his wife she will be flatered, and if its his daughter and we called her his wife she would puke. EWWWWWA! Then again it could be Tammy who is a waitress at the diner and well.. So, thats what ya get. No captions!!!

So here is Bay Harbor. A huge thanks to fellow Woody Boater Mark Edmonson fro sending in the photos. Now, Mark did send in photos of the cards in front of boats. It’s official. The laziest report ever. And you know what? We love it. Cause I am chucking that stuff. And gonna ham and egg this. Which of course is even lazier. So it takes one to know one Mark! HA

Dennis Spilane’s very cool boat. Dennis has a bad … good habit of collecting boats.

Love this. It won a Best of award. I think every boat won a best of something. 16 boats in total. But man oh man what a 16.

The Chairman, restored by Wooden Runabout Co. These guys do insane nice work. Click on their banner on the right

I think this won the Pucker Up Award. How was that one? Well?

Arn’t we all?

This is the best name for a boat EVER! Wonderful Hacker

Mark and Debbie Edmonson won an award. Best Significant. Ya he didnt know what it meant either. Now, the larger question is??? Is that Debbie? And is that Marks Wife? Daughter? Another Diner waitress? The same person? I am so confused?

This won best small boat. I hope its small with that engine. BTW, Cool as hell. 1910

A very Rare Trunkless Car. Mark took this amazing photo. This was the pre curser to the AMC Gremlin. Hey? Could be?

Wait? that’s it?  Bay Harbor is an amazing place up in Northern Michigan. The water is amazing

Okay there is more. Phew  Here is SKOL

Its a 1940 boat. EEEEyikes that is perfect.

Fish Bros barrel back. Great name BTW

Best Outboard. Okay, Only Outboard. Pays to show up.

How could you possibly compare that car to a Gremlin? The Gremlin is one of the ugliest products, not just cars, ever designed. Yuck!

The C.C. 25′ R & W Express Cruiser is still my favorite. Bought one, restored it, had to sell it, BooHoo.

Bay Harbor, just west of Petoskey, MI is a bucket list site you need to visit. Crystal clear water harbor carved out of an old Rock Quarry. It is surrounded by million $ + summer homes.
This was the location of the 2010 ACBS International boat show and is scheduled to be the site of the 2024 show.
Pilgram is a 1941 Burger maintained by my friend Tim Piersma.

You can’t sling a dead cat over your head without hitting a Miss America, cue Bert Parks. Great quality boats (and photos) as you would expect from the area

Also, how can you tease us with the pics of Miss America VIII?!? What is the story? The last time that boat was in the public eye it was stripped of varnish and had just been reunited with those gorgeous engines! Did it sell at that cursed auction? Who bought it? Who is doing the restoration work? Will ever actually run again?

She spent several years out here on the west coast and has a torrid history. Updates are desperately needed!!

Morin Boats is doing the restoration and as always a perfect job. There is a video of the engines run like a watch. She was also at Port Huron last fall

The engines are a pair of v16 Millers in this Miss America just awesome some day they might even get there super charger back on The 30 30 hacker had a Hispano Suiza

      Jim G says:

Number VIII never raced with the Millers. As they were not finished in time. Later when tested they would not push the hull as fast as the Packards would even though the millers had a lot more horsepower and turned a much higher rpm then the Packards did.

A lot of what was said about them at the Mecum auction is in the grey area of not being correct.

If you want to know more about the Miss Americas find the book Speedboat Kings by J. Lee Barrett written in 1939. He was there with Gar Wood when they raced.

Thanks for the tip on the book. I was under the impression that Mecum Auctions still owned VIII. I might be wrong?

What has happened to Miss America VII? Geoff Magnuson had it built and installed a couple of engines (I don’t recall the make) with parts copied to match the original Packard’s. I saw this boat in his shop being built in the late 1990’s and then when it came to the Wine Country Show a year or two later. It was a magnificent replica.

They are Rolls Royce Meteors putting out about 500 to 600 hp a piece. Mason had valves covers casted to look like the Packard valve covers.

Meteors were used in British tanks. But they do share some parts with the Marlins.

There should be a Miss America show.

Can you imagine VII, VIII, IX, and X all at one show? That could blow the lid off of any noise ordinance.
