I have now officially cracked again. The mindless dribble that is Facebook is insane. And more and more crap is uploaded daily that could be helpful to others. now I get it. We use facebook. But you need to make sure your club or business is not being used BY facebook.

Here is the deal. Facebook needs you more than you need them. Think about that. You are the content, you are the reason people come to facebook. The information you post is Facebook. The issue is so is everyone elses crap. BTW, Follow Clif Wolf, he cracks me up and nails it on Facebook. Love that guy. Anyway, all the other crap. Forget it. My kids don’t go there anymore. 99% of kids dont go there. And more and more its spam fake crap all over my page.

Dear ACBS, And Chris Craft Club. DITCH IT and I will. If we all band together and drop the crap. Maybe we can regain some sort of community we manage and help. And there is room for others to help. But do it a focused controled stratigic way. We all need it. I say this as someone that shares information and skills for free to those that need it.

HAPPY HEADER DAY. Hit refresh and a new old stock header will apear from our past

Well, since I’m not on and therefore don’t use Fasebook, it matters notb to me…of course my wife who is on it daily might think otherwise.

    Never been on fakebook…..right decision.

    Going Boating today!

Must now go to Facebook & see if today’s Woody Boater story appears in my feed there, like most days 🙂

I find the groups there to be a good way to keep up with others who share common interests. Faster and easier than checking multiple forums for different interests & clubs. But, yes, if you’re looking to reach the youth, you need to look elsewhere.

I left FB many months ago and never looked back. I really think my life improved a great deal by not being there. I took my company page down too. No regerts. All that said instagram is a nice distraction.

Of course, but Instagram does not specifically harvest groups. Which is a direct shot at clubs like the ACBS and the CCABC. It doesn’t really effect Woody Boater, just crap, but its a major impact on clubs.

Never had a Facebook page. If I want to see something I will use my wife’s got by for lotta years without it. I don’t need it now. I’m going boating today 😀

F/b was a convenient way to keep up with friends and relatives near and far but they’ve cluttered it so with ad feeds and other crap that I can’t find what my friends are doing now. So its useless except to post or read jokes. They should change the name to meme/book.

Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp are just the tip of the iceberg in terms of ads/spam/tracking. If you really want to look up what they know about you, look into your privacy profile and you can see all your ‘interests’ and companies who having you on a list.

Also look up the ‘Audience Network’ that’s more or less any page that doesn’t display google/amazon ads and why’s there’s a Facebook comment section on any blog or news outlet (except woodyboater). As well as apps, games, etc.

Oh boy now I’m all fired up too and it’s almost 8pm here.

I always wondered why people put stuff on Facebook and got really pissed when someone had something to say about it. I an late 70’s, never been on it, don’t need to know what they are doing and know they don’t care what I am doing. Have a great day Facebook users!

…and its childish posts like this that galvanized me to take WB off my bookmarks and to stop checking it daily. If I wanted to read drama filled rants, I’d go to Facebook. Once again I am reminded that WB is not better than that which they decry.

    • Andy in Middletown

You know, the one thing about WB is the ability to get one riled up first thing in the morning, and then break your own personal rule of not contributing negatively to the drama on social media discussions.

My words are out there… and I own them, but I apologize for contributing negatively to this discussion. Matt, as there is no delete function on my phone, please feel free to delete this and the above post. Certainly is not productive. Good day.

Andy, I am gonna leave it because its true. It was a weak moment on my part. I had not slept, been on a shoot for 14 hrs in Chicago and had to go, so i wasnt filtering myself. I agree with you.

  12. Miles Kapper

Not sure what the basis was of the rant but regardless, the Thompson boat owners club page on FB is thriving with all sorts of people exchanging all kinds of ideas and in the process more Thompsons are sold, bought (stands to reason I guess) worked on and discussed with a reach far more than when I published the newsletter. Same could be said of the AOMCI.

Excellent action shot of the U19 Miss America at speed. However, not good to see the driver & rider not wearing helmets. We just lost a driver at the recent vintage Madison race and he was wearing an approved racing helmet. One never knows what lurks beneath the water.

It depends on how you use it. If you rely on the news feeds that show up on your individual page, it is largely garbage. However, I go directly the the Century Boat Club Facebook page and have found a wealth of information (and good people) there. It is far better than the clunky Yahoo Groups pages of long ago. The “restricted” groups likely provide more consistant information than the “open” ones.
