Bar Harbor Breaks Records-ish

Fellow Woody Boaters Matt Byrne and Chad Durren take home best of awards.

We are getting reports that the Bar Harbor Gull Lake Show may have been the largest one’s yet. Of course no one counts and the show is free. So we are going to assume that some sort of record was broken since no one keeps records. Okay, we can assume some sort of record was broken. Maybe someone brought an old Bobby Sherman record and ran over it.

Oh! Dave Bortner’s pants have NOTHING on these guys! They came to win!

You know this is just copy that I am writing to fill in the story. Right? Are you even still reading? Why? Everyone else is drooling all over the photos from Dane Anderson. Okay then. Here we go. And I get to make up the captions! Wooohooo! Even reporting on the show is fun!

Any more info on the kit boat? I just got one out of a long term storage that looks very similar. Wish I could post a picture

The kit boat is a 54. I believe the owners are Woody Boater readers maybe they will chime in with more details. The boat looks great and they have a lot of fun running it. It won an award yesterday amongst stiff competition.

As Dane noted, our kit boat is a ’54 17 ft. Chris-Craft speed boat kit. According to the Chris-Craft Essential Guide, they made 1,0o0 17 ft. speed kits in ’54-’55, 100 of which came preassembled. Ours has the up option of mahogany decks, instead of plywood and is powered by a Ford 223 six cylinder inline with an Osco marine conversion kit and Capital transmission. What motor does your kit boat have? We’d love to see pictures.

Love the lines of the Grand Craft sedan. Wonder where or who drew them up. Looks like a Gage-Hacker utility of similar length from the early 60’s .

Awesome pictorial coverage, thanks for taking time to take all these.

I lofted them with Chris Smith about 1980. And yes they are a Gage Hacker design The Gages want some new ones with a little different flare. Also Congrats to Matt Chad

Not sure if that is James Bond’s boat or if someone had an old Fiat X19 and put it on a boat?

And those two dudes on the dock…sweet Jesus….where does one even buy clothing like that?!!! Does it get foggy in that area and they don’t want to get lost?

    The rest…..just wow.

Great event. Great photos. Glad you liked my original, unrestored condition blue canvas covered 1952 Thompson model 240 Take-Along. She was in the water for the first time in a decade or so. I rowed her to and from the boat launch, getting some exercise.
