Take That Kim Kardashian!

YA BABY! BOOM! I think thats what kids say these days

What the hell, I am 61 and 99.9% of the social media influencers out there will think that this is officially the sign of the Social media Influencer apocalypse. How in the hell did some old man become one of us? EWWWWWWAA!

Well, sorry kids. The old man just officially was made one. Oh sure it’s in an area kids could not give a dam about. Classic Boats, but to be fair, I don’t give a crap about your big butt, or make up tricks, fashion does and donts and I refuse to hang off a skyscraper to take a selfie. But I do love being passionate about something, and so I have tried to break every rule my decomposing brain refuses to try. For 12 years I have pounded away at one message. The love and importance of Classic Wood Speed Boats.

OVER THERE

And last week, despite millions of readers on WoodyBoater.com, Instagram gave me the official term. YUP, I hit a whopping 10,000 followers. OH? Laughing little Mrr 5 year old that reviews toys. Hold on.. The Classic Speed boat universe is maybe, 20,000 people. 19,050 if you count the last 5 minutes you have been reading this, since that many died or forgot they liked anything.

THAT WAS FUN!

by the way, those of you in the know, we did not cheat, buy or do any tricks to get to this number. We did it the hard way. one photo at a time. We did not even do paid reach, which is now a thing. So sorry, no russian hookers are following us, or even worse, robots! yes Robots! Its a game. Anyway..

mmmmmmm???? I have no idea what to talk about. It’s not like I don’t talk about whats on my mind every day? Now What? What if no one comes? OH god, what have I done?

And 10K followers in a universe of 20K is 50%, and that’s huge, and to top that off, Woody Boater the website, a daily news blog thingamajig, has around 20,000 unique visitors a month. Actually had that many in a day one day. The day we made it on CBS Sunday Morning. Its a TV show for those of you still reading under the age of 40. The TV is that big thing your parents gave you that you never even plugged in, or play games on it.

Anyway. I am now a social media influencer and I have only one concern. Will it make my butt look bigger? Am I gonna get in a fight with that girl, the one that’s boyfriends are always breaking up with? Who? Damm brain.. # TalorAwift…Ya that’s it.

Thankyou all from the bottom of my bilge!

    Congrats Matt!

Before the term social media influencer was coined, they were known as movers and shakers. At 61, it’s an honor to be known as one in today’s world.

    Nice socks.

I loved the comment about the Mustang steering wheel being borrowed from Ford, just down the street! Evinrude was in Milwaukee as was Harley Davidson, and Evinrude used Harley motorcycle grips on their twist throttles. There was no attempt to remove the Harley name from the grip. Gee, that wouldn’t happen in today’s world!

George, What a good looking old Evinrude. I hope it is yours. I have heard that William Davidson and Ole Evinrude were friends. That in the early years either Harley made carburetors for Evinrude or visa versa. Two legends working together and getting started, thats history.

    “We are the music makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
    Wandering by lone sea-breakers,
    And sitting by desolate streams;
    World-losers and world-forsakers,
On whom the pale moon gleams:
Yet we are the movers and shakers
Of the world for ever, it seems.”

    Arthur O’Shaughnessy’s 1874 poem ‘Ode’

So what “bard” of the 21 century will pen (text?) such an ode to the modern influencer?

Congratulations! According to my millennial offspring Facebook is dead so to get that many followers on Instagram is a positive step in promoting the hobby.
I watched the Algonac video you were in for the third time and it’s one of the best around. Before I got into classic boats we spent years cruising Lake Huron, Georgian Bay and the North Channel in a large plastic diesel powered cruiser with enough electronics to fly the space shuttle. In the summer we would keep the boat slipped in Lexington, MI but during the fall we would bring it down the St. Clair River to Algonac for winter storage.
I didn’t know it at the time but the building where we stored the boat in Algonac was the same building where my 1941 Custom was built and the building is featured in that video. Maybe that’s where I got infected with the “Classic Boat” bug.

Can you, as appears to be the objective of most of the talentless, preening wastrel “influencers” on social media, somehow monetize this exalted but largely vapid distinction?

Of course, I have no intent to cast you as one of them in this scornful comment, and I genuinely congratulate you on the this achievement. It’s not easy to accomplish when your orbit is heavily populated by gentrified curmudgeons. I have no followers and influence no one – just the way I like it.

The shorts match the captains chairs, Kim is totally shocked to have been placed in something real and the boat is laughing so hard it’s spitting! Back to my magazine collection now… 😉

Honest truth – when I first saw the header picture today, I thought it was Amy Winehouse in the boat. That’s how much Kardassian means to me.

Hey, I’ve got an idea!—Let’s put Kim Kardasian in a boat in the middle of a lake and film her trying to get it back to a dock! —Oh wait, we can’t do that. Celebrities’ are supposed to know how to do everything!
