My Fathers Boots

My Fathers World War II Combat Boots.

I used to wear these as a kid in the 1970s . They are fantastic and were great in the snow when sledding. I knew they were my dads old army boots but I had not really matured enough to truly understand what these boots really meant. My father wore them with him while marching through Germany for Patton’s  drive to finish off the Nazi’s. He never really spoke of it, and only now do I understand why. Such sacrifice is amazing. I am in awe of the special people that gave their lives and their efforts to keeping our nation safe and free. It seems strange to wish a happy Veterans Day since it’s a day of honor and deep respect to our beloved veterans. But we can wish us all a Happy Armistice Day! That’s a very happy day indeed.
I just found this from one of the battles he did mention he fought in. The battle Of Ruhr Pocket.

We will never be able to repay “the great generation” for what they did for our country. I wish more people realized that.
    God bless our veterans!

Called Hospice for my WWII father last week, served in the South Pacific… He’s almost 94. Greatest Generation by far. He got me hooked on wooden boats and sailing. Quartermaster US Navy. He is and always will be bigger than life. Thanks Dad for all you have done

A grand salute to all veterans. All gave some, some gave all! Thank them all the next time you raise the Stars and Stripes on the stern of your boat

I used to wear my Dads combat boots as well in the 70s when out in the snow until I outgrew them. He still has them. Not sure if they were the ones he wore in WW2 or Korea. He never talked about it either until we were watching Band of Brothers and he said, “Hey, that’s my old unit.” I got my own when I served and just threw out my Jump Boots last year when we moved. Were gonna go get a free lunch somewhere today.
