I Got Nuth’n

WAKE UP!

I have feared this may happen some day. I got nuth’n. I suppose this happens when you try and take a break and don’t have a boat ride to rejuvinate you. And one things for sure, sitting around and being a blob, does only one thing. Makes you really good at being a blob. I went pro in like 10 minutes. Serious Blobage.

Ya, it’s Monday. So.. Tomorrow is Christmas Eve,  and thats it. I might slither out of the house once it stops raining and go see some stuff. Or maybe just eat the crumbs on my inflated belly. Now called a shelf of lost snack bits. So, I am goona just randomly post some great photos from Last year and pray I wake up soon.

As soon as this stops putting that soggy ball in my face.

Now some boats.

Go get some oysters, and then do a story on the local oyster boats. Or shrimp and shrimp boats. Catfish and crawfish too, but the boat part will be harder.

Not many oysters in Louisiana, spillway open 165 days, no crabs, oysters lake Ponchartrain, Mississippi, all east of Miss. river. Maybe next year. Next door neighbors brothers own P & J oyster house in New Orleans, have to import from Texas East and west coast. Very sad.

How about a story on really old wooden boats at their basic level. I seem to remember seeing an old English boat shaped like a circle. Possibly called a cockle?

      sproggy says:

A cockle is an open sailing boat, usually from the east coast of the UK, traditionally used for fishing, now more recreational. Various designs abound as there were/are local variations. If you’re talking round boats you mean a coracle like this one, although they vary in design too and aren’t all quite so round.

Time to head towards White Stone … we’re trying Coosa for a transom and floors in a ’64 Sunray and I hear Will Garvey just picked up a Hacker…

You can’t do too many stories on the Higgins PT boat restoration at the WWII museum in N.O. That was a monumental effort of coordination and reconstruction.

Merry Christmas from New Zealand to you Matt and all our Woody Boater friends.
Heres a Woody Boater story to warm the cockles of your heart.
Back in 2009 I bought my 66 Century Arabian from Herb at Sierra Boat in Tahoe. A year later I flew over for the concours show at Sierra boats Marina and there I was introduced to a fellow, Steve Lapkin, who was shooting pictures for the show.
We got talking and Steve confessed that his Dad had owned a 66 Arabian like mine and he always wondered where it had ended up. After a bit of chat we realised that the boat I had bought a year earlier was in fact Steves family boat. It had been named ‘Ruthie L’ after his Mum. A few weeks back home in New Zealand I received a package from Steve with an ignition key. ” Put this in the Arabian and if it starts we know you surely have my Dads old Arabian.” The key started the boat.
Steve and I have become good friends since that day we met on the dock at Carnelian Bay. We’ve emailed regularly, we’ve met up in Hawaii and last year Steve and I flew over again and attended the Tahoe show at Obexars and spent more great time talking boats and hanging out.
This coming March will be the New Zealand Classic Boat show at the lake where I keep my Century Thoroughbreds. Lake Rotoiti, St Arnaud in the South Island. I will have a visitor accompanying me from the USA. Steve is flying out and will be reunited with his family Arabian ‘Ruthie L’ now ‘miss Tahoe.’
The first time he’s seen the boat in over 20 years. There will be pictures.

Trivia. Re: the “Hershey’s Ice Cream” box in the background of the photo of your house…ice cream was never made by The Hershey (chocolate) Company. The “Hershey’s” ice cream is made in Harrisburg, PA. The company’s web site states: “The Hershey Creamery Company was founded
in 1894 by Jacob Hershey and his four brothers:
Isaac, Paris, Ephraim and Eli Hershey (no relation
to Milton S. Hershey of the Hershey Company).” I believe there was a lawsuit in the 1960’s over the use of the “Hershey” name, ice cream vs chocolate; the obvious outcome…both companies still use the name. Considering I grew up in the shadow of the Hershey chocolate factory, and my Dad ran marketing, then planning and was later assistant to the CEO at Hershey Chocolate, I am always alert when I see the “Hershey’s Ice Cream” name. (And yes, I had all the chocolate I could ever have wanted as a child, from kisses to ten pound chocolate bars….).
