LIVE From Lake Dora Vintage Race

, ,

We have a short message from Terry Fiest at Wooten Park in Tavaras Florida reporting on the Vintage Boat Races. It’s gives you a brief view of how its going and what they are doing to make sure we all keep our Social Distance. As you can see this is more of a small gathering of boaters, going boating. Not a sit around and meet and hug each other thing. Take it away Terry.

One further note on the race boat participants concern for the CV-19… the referee told me they are all washing their hands often with methanol. Guess that means the guys have to go “hands free” when needing to take a leak? 🙂

Cool video! I see why it was a go. There was not any where near 100 people there.

The video was taken when we shut down for lunch. No worries the crowds were good but not as large as the Sunnyland show.
48 boats are at the event and all the crews are having fun in the sun. There was also a large spectator fleet. We even had a 1956 Century Coronado as our photo boat owned by John Heiderich. There were many Canadian ACBS members here to.
Bring plenty of water and sunscreen it’s HOT here.

Was there all day. Lots of people on site. Restaurants busy at lunch and limited parking. Best of all great weather. Biggest turnout of race boats in recent times. Tomorrow will be another great day on the water. Event starts at 10:30 am.
Sunnyland big tent is up. Everyone is looking forward to another great event. See you Thursday night at the City of Tavares Welcome Party!

“Florida should cancel all gatherings of 250 people or more and schools should consider extending spring break, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced in a state-specific guidance about the coronavirus Thursday night.”

What liability do organizers of such events who disregard this advice incur? Just asking!

From the Tavares web site, viewed 10 am, March 15, 2020:

March 13, 2020 3:00 PM IMPORTANT EVENTS UPDATE

This afternoon the Tavares City Council “moved to continue all events as planned with no conditions, and for staff to move forward with events as originally planned”. The City continues to monitor the situation closely along with national, state and local health agencies. The City takes public safety concerns seriously and will continue to provide updates as needed.
