LAKE DORA SHOW POSTPONED! THANK YOU! PHEW. WITH UPDATES

,

We will be updating through out the week

Thank god, it’s been called off for now. No word on when it will be again. This is all in flux. To be honest I was in hell. Go to support and then be an anti social person? Expose my family to me after the show? Expose myself? NOT WHAT YOU THINK….  We go to be with each other, but? The stress on the club and volunteers was getting crazy as well. The call has been made by the Sunnyland Gang and ACBS to postpone the show!

THANK GOD! SMART MOVE!!!!

I stand in respect for making a very tough, and costly decision. Tourism over Spring break is a HUGE deal in Florida. And this will hit them hard.

The volunteers work their buts off making sure we are all happy

All throughout yesterday and today I have been getting pings letting me know folks will be not coming. Some are going regardless because this is a weekly vacation for many of us.

Empty chairs!

With this said, we here at WoodyBoater are not going to be in Florida this year. Which is a very painful choice for me. I have shut down my office in Virginia and folks are working remotely from home. We are swamped with work, since a bulk of our work is healthcare. Needless to say, communication to the public right now for them is at an all time high.

SONS OF VARNISH – LAKE DORA CHAPTER

We here at WoodyBoater ask of you to please donate your entry fee’s and other expenses you spent on the event. Ticket money etc to the Sunnyland Chapter. PLEASE HELP!!! This will help them significantly.  We will be donating ALL the SONS OF VARNISH LAKE DORA shirts to the club for later use. I will distribute the 2 large boxes to Terry or someone at the club.

“Too Many Chickens On A Stick” mermaid shirts!

Pre War Babe Cushion Shirt

ALSO, We will be putting ALL our other shirts online in a week, and 100% of the profits will go to the Sunnyland Chapter to help in some of the expenses. Stay Tuned For UPDATES on further news as it happens.  WAIT.. I LOST WEIGHT FOR NOTHING! I am so getting a Pizza tonight!

UPDATE UPDATE! UPDATE UPDATE!

The City Of Tavares  just announced it will still be installing the extra temporary docks so folks still there can use them. The park is open and so are many restaurants and business’s. THIS IS ONE OF THE NATIONS BEST BOATING AREAS! No crowds now to worry about. And you will have dock space to use.

So just because the show is postponed you don’t have to postpone your boating. This is a very trying time, and unique and the City, Sunnyland Chapter and us here at WoodyBoater are trying to keep it as fun.. AND SAFE!

Stay tuned for more updates as they happen.

UPDATE UPDATE OFFICIAL RELEASE FROM SUNNYLAND

2020 SUNNYLAND ANTIQUE BOAT FESTIVAL HAS BEEN OFFICIALLY POSTPONED

The over whelming impact of the Coronavirus has resulted in the SUNNYLAND ANTIQUE BOAT FESTIVAL BEING POSTPONED. The Sunnyland Chapter along with the City of Tavares did everything possible to host the event. The City Council went the Extra mile and it appeared that the show would go on. The Chapter was determined to host the event and as most everyone knows the situation is very fluid and changes daily.
The Sunnyland Board of Directors is very concerned about safety and health issues and based on guidance from the State of Florida, made the decision to postpone the event. Our show is a small part of what the World is facing and hopefully we can all pull together and get this behind us. I thank all of you for your support and for believing in our show. With God’s blessing and your continued support we will defeat this Virus and get back to Boating.
Terry Fiest, Chairman

Wow! Thanks Matt for the tremendous display of support.

At least this year I won’t make the front page of Woody Boater being towed in!—But I’d rather be towed in, since being towed in means I’m on the water.

    Sunday, March 15th, 10:30 am – Latest Update…

The call has been made by the Sunnyland Chapter and the ACBS to postpone the show!

In my opinion…a smart decision based on the “average age” of most antique & classic boat enthusiasts and owners.

I personally intend to do some real drinking at all virtual parties since no driving is required. 60% alcohol is sanitizing. So what drinks are 120 proof?

Yep, most other events are cancelled down here .
On a different note, did they ever get the docks replaced? I hadn’t heard since the temp ones were used

Just cross the the Florida state line with my Coronado in tow. Do you really think I am turning around and driving back to PA?

The optics of holding the show were untenable and this was the only decision to take – regardless of the actual risk presented. The average age of the participants or the attendees is in my opinion irrelevant – those and all individuals make their own decisions about matters of personal health – if they had chosen to attend this or any event, that decision is theirs personally and was not imposed upon them by anyone. However, with almost all other events cancelled, this was clearly inevitable.

I have not even paid my registration fees yet, but I certainly will do so anyway. The time and efforts of the volunteers and the chapter need to be respected and this is obviously a matter beyond anyone’s control. I don’t want the chapter to become a casualty of a very difficult situation for everyone so my $180 is on its’ way.

During the winter we live 1 mile from the show site, and today I am going boating. Not on a loaded pontoon or tour boat, but if social distancing is being called for, being out on a vintage recreational boat on the water on an upper-80’s day is the best way I can think of to do the socially responsible thing.

well as you can see from the photo in the above post….Troy and Sandi are here with Bethany and I in ole Va! Their plan was to make this a boating vacation for a couple of weeks…so not having the show hardly impacts that good time plan.
    Sunnyland made the right call.
    be safe all,
    John in Va.

Great point Paul. PLEASE DONATE YOUR FEE TO THE CLUB. We are all taking a hit for sure, but this is the clubs big yearly revenue and all the expenses associated with this show is not small. Vendors as well. The cost associated with taking your business to an event like this are not cheap. Not to mention. But I will Sponsors. Katz’s marina is donating all money spent on Gold Sponsorship to the club. This is a time for all of us to unite and support! Great call by the ACBS and Team Sunnyland! WE SALUTE YOU!

Guys, i have to say, im more than disappointed. This whole thing has been blown completely out of the realm of sanity. This virus is akin to a sporty cold and everyone everywhere seems to be loosing their minds. As influenza strains seem to be getting stronger, more diverse and resilient, i don’t really remember folks shutting down social events, hoarding big box stored and hiding out. Nor do i remember the outcry for those that were immuno- comprised for whatever reason. Common sense people ! This is the kind of social event that brings good folks together for a weekend in the sunshine ( good for the body and soul!) and we’re caving to the madness. I submit to you, that if you don’t wash your hands regularly and cough on people you’re a bloody savage, and that was true 20 years ago. I believe ill be boating next weekend . I believe ill continue to wash my hands regularly and ill not be coughing in anyone’s general direction. Provided the world doesn’t end, i hope to see all of you at the next one.
    Cheers !

I know it was a tough decision. All cancellations have been tough decisions. But if it saves lives and keeps people healthy, it is worth it. Those of you that are down there, or on your way. Take lots of boat rides hang out at the Palm Gardens and Pirates, send us lots of pictures. As I said earlier Matt, I’m sure that you and Troy can put on quite a virtual show🌴

I work for many healthcare systems and have been working 24/7 on this issue regarding communications. So I see it from the inside. . THIS IS NOT A MEDIA THING. Yes it’s a tad dramatic. BUT, it’s a real issue. The hospitols are already full with normal flue season, and this could overwhelm them. The need here is not catching it, its spreading it. Even if 99% of us were fine. Because we were at an event this large, when you get home, you would need to stay home for 14 days to see if you have it. Never mind all the gas pumps you use on the trip. Yes, a tad over the top. But its real and a boat show is not worth one life. NOT ONE! I aplaud the very very tough choice. BTW. We must also consider the volunteers in Sunnyland who many are in the target zone. For many in our community this could be life or death as dramatic as that may seem.

This ‘virus’ has affected everything — from just getting through life to the things and people that we love and keep us going.

After many agonizing years of waiting due to time/$$$’s/museum availability this past Tuesday I finally got Miss Madison into the Hydroplane Museum for her looooong awaited restoration. Then this hits. The museum has had to cancel numerous events at their facility, and volunteer ‘attendance’ at work sessions has dropped. But we do need to stay safe and healthy.

After waiting this long I have perfected the Art of Patience — this project WILL get done, and I’m sure everyone out there will realize their ‘interrupted’ dreams in due time.

It’s about resources. When you have a heart attack and think you can just get whisked away to the hospital to be cared for, guess what?

No beds, not enough care givers, and serious exposure to the virus. If you think this is overblown, you have not watched the Joe Rogan interview yet. Until hearing that, I was an eye roller. The people on Italy were saying the exact same thing 3 weeks ago.

If a piano was falling from the 10th story and a stranger was in its path, would you say something?
